True Grit: It's quite gritty!

Guess who put off studying for two hours and just got back from an advance screening of the new Coen Brothers' film, True Grit?
this guy
First 45 seconds spoiler:
This is a sort of "stranger comes to town" story, only the stranger has already left town after having killed the protagonist's father over a matter of two California gold pieces. While yet only fourteen, she decides she's going to hunt the fucker down and kill him, be it the dead of winter or no. That's her in the poster up top.
This movie features:
Beautiful scenery
Funny accents
Top-of-the-line Coen Brothers writing and directing
Unrepentant violence and theivin'
Seriously, it's gritty stuff
Like thirty-five solid minutes of Jeff Bridges drunkenly verbally abusing Matt Damon and another thirty-five of Hailee Steinfeld, in her film debut role, doing the exact same to anyone fucking else who has the displeasure of being the object of her ire
I recommend you go see it. (when it comes out on December 22nd of this the year of our lord 2010) It's funnier than The Hudsucker Proxy, (you know, for kids!) less irreverent than O! Brother, Where Art Thou?, not quite as cerebral as Barton Fink, and you can actually look at Jeff Bridges and not just think of the Dude. I'd say A- territory.

I'm wondering how well Jeff Bridges will fill The Duke's role.

So, was it better than the 1969 version?

Cannot waaaaaiiiiiit.
Going to revitalize the tradition of seeing the Coen Bros. movie over Christmas break with my friend from high school that started with No Country and ended... with No Country.
From what I understand, this one stick closer to the book's grim humor.

I came in here to say how much I want to see this but now I have to ask...How the fuck can you not like Jeff Bridges? Beau Bridges and his giant fat face I could understand. But Jeff? This doesn't compute.
The first movie I ever took my future wife to see was "Open Range." The fact that we got married anyway means my luck is up, so I'm definitely seeing this one on my own.

From the preview, it sounds like the guy playing the lead antagonist is going to try desperately hard to be robert duvall, which will be good if he succeeds.

But Open Range was a good movie, especially for a modern western. In fact, I would say it was the best western since Unforgiven, at the time.

The Coens know how to make a goddamn movie. No Country was a killer western. They want to make some more? Please.
Also, A Serious Man 2: A Very Serious Channukah.

Am I weird for thinking this is a weird way to refer to the original?

Man, I really want to watch Open Range now. It has one of the best ending action scenes I have ever watched.
