Ever day this month has had an article, front page, about how divorce is the best thing evars.
I think my friend who has to share custody of his kids and pay a quarter of his salary to his ex would disagree with that.
Shit dude, it has it's own Divorce section.
Really, I imagine some of these people are just difficult people to get along with but they're oh so liberal and progressive so it's marriage's fault and definitely not theirs.

Alimony is dumb and should not exist. I will probably be told why I'm an awful misogynist for this.

Not all states have it (washington for instance does not), and I agree its archaic, especially since in most couples both spouses work, and if one doesn't work over the other that shouldn't be a paycheck because you sat on your ass.

Even in states where it does exist, you aren't going to see it unless there is a large income disparity between the couple. Or in the case of Hollywood marriages, a pre-nup.
"Unleft" is a good album, too. More of a shimmery golden sound, kinda.

I think my mom pretty much let my dad stop paying child support, since he needed the money more than we did. And then she used it as an excuse to wring a bit more in financial aid out of my school.
and he wants to add a transgender character
huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurgh
realize it is jeph
so she (of course it will be a girl) will be the most beautiful thing ever and everyone will lust after her and fuck her even after it turns out she has a penis
but QC is a terrible comic that tries way too hard.
How does it try to hard?
The jokes are all forced and unfunny. Like there's some actual plot in the background, but for some reason everyone has to make pause to make a joke every other minute and it's just awkward.
It's the problem that every comic strip of this sort faces (to give a print example: For Better Or For Worse), although online ones really should be moving beyond it because they have more space and potential.
I will cut you for saying bad things about Lynn Johnston
I still use obscure references from her comics in my every day life

Now it's less of a need. Women can work without social stipulation. Back when the best a woman could hope for was getting a rich husband who would buy her a dishwasher or a vacuum instead so she didn't have to slave around the house all day alimony made sense. These women, because of the norms at the time, had no higher education, could not enter a well paying job market, and were basically fucked when/if they ever divorced their husbands.
It's the crux of why many women stay in abusive relationships.
So in the modern day where we have a similar situation, yes, alimony makes sense.
Otherwise...
Now, Alimony sucks in general in the modern day sense because, at least down this way, it's basically a divorce tax on men. I can think of several people who divorced, the ex husband and ex wife have similar paying jobs, but the husband has alimony regardless.

I'm surprised I've not heard of these guys before since I thought I had exhausted Last.FM's collection of good post-rock.
Polls on shit like that always make me kind of leery on trusting the results. Yeah statisics and everything, but its all in how the questions are asked and the demos, and with a "belief" its really easy to sway it with the question.

Does he/she/you live in America?
If so, your mom doesn't get to decide when he stops paying child support. The state government does. Cause they get a cut. Child support doesn't go from your mom's pocket to your dad's. It goes to the State who then hands it out.
There's a pretty big dustup here in Mississippi about men who are fathers and committed a crime at an early age, spent a couple of decades in jail, and the being released in to tens of thousands of dollars in debt towards child support.

I don't know then. Maybe it's wasn't official through-the-court child support, but an agreement between them. My parents divorced under relatively amicable circumstances, and there's never been any hostility as far as I've known, so it's entirely possible.
I haven't been able to find any job openings I would be interested in or could use as a step-up to a job I would like for like 3 weeks now. =/

My wife watches that Teen Mom shit on MTV.
I had to stop even listening to it while in the room because it was seriously (and unfairly) affecting my view of women and simultaneously affecting my view of young men as being worth a damn.
The only couple with any damn sense on that show are the ones that gave their kid up for adoption.

That's not universal, my parents didn't have to go through a state intermediary.

I fucking hate rednecks.
This post has affected my view of your wife.
Who the fuck watches that shit? That'd seriously be grounds for a break-up for me. There's enjoying Grey's Anatomy and then there's watching MTV shovel-shows for more than a minute.

It depends on the state and when. The child support my dad paid for me and my siblings didn't go through the state. My half-brother's support did.

My wife watched that and I seriously can not stand it. Such an entitled group of assholes getting their 15 minutes of fame for being fucking idiots. God damn you MTV for enabling them.

Could be like my wife who watches it to get her hate on. Like she literally hates every woman on there, yet consumes it to keep the hate going. Kind of like me reading the H/A forums.

Personal Accountability is not in this Dojo.
The band is called Helios and that song's off an album called Eingya. According to Youtube comments, the art comes from a movie called 5cm Per Second.

Why is Divorce so expensive?

Boy it's a good thing you're just seeing this most recent poll, and not ones from like even 10 years ago when that number was a lot higher.

If you think that's bad, his previous work "Voice of a Distant Star" is probably 10x worse for depression factor.
Care to summarize why it's so depressing without ruining the story?
