So, this conversation seems a decent place to ask this: how does the average user (if at all) view his/her personal postcount? Can we even do it, or is that withheld from us?

I don't think many people actually whore for postcount.
I only whore to exercise my slut-muscles, and to make money.
Occasionally I wonder how high my count is but is mainly to determine if my concept of myself is borne out by reality (I have seen people consider themselves postwhores who post infrequently, I think I post a lot, but maybe I don't, really).

Why? Althugh I agree that some odd individuals may enjoy having a giant postcount, most of them already post constantly just so people can see them in every forum. So what exactly is the reasoning behind it, if I may be so bold to ask. Is it really simply out of fear that somone will delve into uter trolldum simply to have the most posts?

People will troll to raise their postcounts, people will troll someone with a small postcount, people with troll someone with a large postcount.

People did troll.
They used to be on long ago. Aside from the pointless posts just to raise post count, they create social problems. People start to equate their postcount with the worth of their opinions. Even worse than currently happens with join dates

hu. Sad to hear all that, on other forums I frequent those probalems don't arise much, every now and again some anoyiing troll would come in, and attempt to up their postcount but they seemed just as few and far between as this forum is now. No worries though I suppose it's not that important.

It's pretty much a given that any other forum you went to had far fewer users and far fewer people signing up each day.

Sorry, its just one of those things about our forums. There are larger forums out there that do display post counts, however, most dont. I haven't looked in a while, but last I looked we were in the top 150 of web forums on the net. I make up for the hidden post counts by occasionally "leaking" postcount information. It should also be noted, mods can see postcounts up to 25. And every forum admin knows that each community is different. This community is made up of gamers who are by their nature competitive. I have been on board like phpBB that are more populated by webmasters and programmers that is more "tame". It all depends on what you are looking for.
So what was the question again? Oh, I guess the answer is somewhere in that random tangent above.

But yeah, it's all about the slut-muscles.

That looks like a very disjointed version of G&T, not SE++.
