There is an image floating around of Isabela with a bow, but Bioware has gone on record as stating it should be ignored because you can't actually do that.
That's actually kind of disappointing. Would be nice to have a ranged option for your characters if you need to do some sort of pull or ranged attack for some reason.
You do have a ranged option for if you need to do some sort of pull. It's the ranged characters you brought along.
What's with the inconsistent nudity in bioware games? Why is it okay to show something horrifying like the brood mothers while they always cover up the love interests in the sex scenes?
Plenty of other M rated games like god of war or red dead redemption have had non-monster nudity and gotten away with it.
One is portrayed sexually and the other isn't, I am sure that is the difference.

So that would be Bethany/Hawke, Anders and Varric? Are there any other ranged characters they've mentioned?

Bethany, Anders, and Merrill are mages, Varric is a bow rogue, and Sebastian is as well, if you got him. On top of that the initial rogue skill, regardless of whether the character is dual-wield or bow is a ranged AoE stun.

I'm still kinda flummoxed that the bigger deal is people loving each other and the portrayal of blood-drenched psychopaths.
But you know, lol America and its prudish sensibilities.

So...I noticed that mage's rods come inbued with elemental powers now.
So...does have different players change their attacks?
I'm not sure if I've seen any animation outside of the fire melee one.
Also...I noticed that the elemental boost for your allies is now based on the rod your character has equipped. Wonder if that means they got rid of the telekinetic one.

Most Mage's staves in Origins had elements too, though they were unevenly applied. All of the late game ones were ice for instance and totally useless against Revenants. You can see what the Ice effect looks like in the Developer chat playthrough if you want.
They may have kept the telekinetic one for any without an element, or they may have just straight ditched it. It does sound like you may be able to do more meaningful damage with your staff if its fire and you pick up Pyromancer, the bonus specifically calls out staff damage.

Sorry. Wasn't trying to open a can of worms. Just musing.
In other news, based on that talent leak a few pages back, it kinda seems like mages won't be doing anything in melee range of any sort. I am disappointed by that misleading trailer.
I think I read its kind of an Uncanny Valley issue for Bioware (to which I do agree. Shit just looks weird)
I never thought about mages using different elements in this one. That would certainly change at least the graphic for each element type during the normal attack chain, and perhaps even the animation itself? That would be all kinds of sexy.
Hey, I'm relatively new, so forgive me for just butting into the conversation but...
Well, I really only got up to speed on DA2 when I read the recent issue of Game Informer. I kept on reading they were going to do to it what they did to Mass Effect, but I didn't hear any confirmation so I didn't listen. Then I saw it confirmed I admit I had more than a moment's pause. Its not that I didn't like ME2, I did. However, I was one of the people who missed most of the stuff that got cut. I'm not going to get into "hardcore" or "casual", I just know that I liked large inventories, min-maxing, etc. I admit I really never used a lot of those weapons or upgrades, but not having them there, my glass just felt half empty. I did like it, as I've said, but...well, I'll just say that I traded it in when I was done, which I don't usually do.
Now, I don't think they can go the same direction to the same extent here as in ME2: i.e. it would be hard to turn DA2 into a hack and slash with a lot of abilities on the side. But then again, I can't help but feel some parallels with the end of auto-attack (which in all honest didn't contribute that much to my total damage, but which I still like as a means of orienting my character toward an enemy) and ME suddenly introducing ammo clips.
So basically, this is how I feel about DA2: I'm probably going to play it and I'm would be surprised if I don't like it. But at this point it isn't going to be a game I would pre-order, or even one I would feel bad about buying used, because I can't help but feel like Bioware has decided to take their games in a direction away from where my personal tastes lie. Which is fine of course, since obviously I'm the oddball here and not them.
