I liked the episode. I thought it was pretty good, and it was cool to hear the backstory of the characters. It was funny to see that Mike has a swordsman alter-ego as well, but I guess that's appropriate.

I wish they had mentioned L.H. Franzibald being Buckley's alter-ego as well, would've been hilarious.

But seriously, it might be neat in a future episode to find out if any of the other PA universe characters are based on real people, like Tycho's niece (can't remember her name), Charles, or (god forbid) Frank.

Thx for the entertainment as always! :)

Sucks I gotta wait for the bonus scenes to see Mike shooting people w/ his airsoft gun. :(

I'm not sure I like Vantage Point nearly as much as 2P. It felt like 2P's work "got" Penny Arcade. It's hard to describe but in this episode particularly it felt pretty sterile, especially considering the fun subject matter.

For me it's the music. I think they had to bring a composer on board to handle it because maybe, and I don't know how, they were running out of free 8-bit music. It's good, but it really slowed the pace of this episode. Admittedly this wasn't going to be an action-packed one, but parts of the interview with Mike made me want coffee.

I dunno if it's because I wore headphones while watching this one, but I thought the music was kinda loud. Still great music, but it seemed to drown out Mike talking. I got distracted and missed what he said few times near the end there.

I agree that there definitely seems to be some...spark...lacking. Up until now I haven't really had any beef with the work Vantage Point is doing or thought there was a huge difference but I just really can't help but feel 2PP would have handled this episode better.

Slightly off topic, but I always wonder if each time a new PATV is ready, if the whole gang gathers around a table and watches it together, or do they just watch it alone on their free time? Or maybe most of them don't even watch...

I totally agree with that. This episode felt so boring... sterile probably is the best way to describe it... like no emotion. Given the subject it probably should've been one of the best eps but was one of the worst.

But I'm not going to blame in on Vantage Point, b/c the previous episode "The Takeover" was my favorite of all the episodes done so far by either company!

Sometimes it's just what they were specifically given to work with in terms of interviews... they can't all be winners. :(

    Thanks!

And, I'm hoping that this episode will feature some robust extras on the DVD. Even though a major traffic jam prevented the PATV crew from arriving in time for the tournament (which I won; alas), they did film a bit more fighting, a lot of revelry, and even our camp's belly dancer's frolic in the river. We'll have to invest in either pixelation or black-bar technology for that scene.

    Ah, SCA. So fun.

When I used to fence I heard a lot of people talk shit about SCA, and I guess there probably are a lot of SCA types who are fairly neckbeard-ish.

Now that I've decided I'm not going to have the time or money to seriously fence for an indefinite number of years, SCA kinda looks like a lot of fun.

Probably just as bad or worse on the money side of things, though.

I was (and am) a big fan of The Secret of Monkey Island and Sid Meier's PIRATES!, so for my first seven years in the SCA my persona was a Jamiacan-born Englishman privateer named Michel du Port Royale. Port Royal was my favorite hangout in PIRATES!; man, I'd spent hundreds of hours on that game.

Then Pirates of the Caribbean came out.

Which was great at first, because pirate garb was a lot easier to find. But then events became flooded with Jack-Sparrow-come-latelys. It was too much for me; I guess I'm a ren faire hipster, and can not tolerate something once it becomes popular.

So, these days I'm going with more of a mercenary Musketeer vibe with William Wylley. Though I admit I'm drawing pretty heavily from Fable 3, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, and Gilderoy Lockhart.

hahaha, timing's everything! Pirates and Monkey Island were a staple of my childhood video game diet. I'll always remember sailing between ports with the PC-speaker squeeling that terrible sound as the wind changed or gusted.

When I saw the title of this show I was hoping Jerry would elaborate a little on his own name, given that not only does he go by his middle name rather than his given name, but that he and Brenna invented a new goddamn surname when they got married, which has to feel awesome.

    EDIT: oh, crap.

i feel you on the 'ren faire hipster' mentality. when you have a certain thing after a while you can get annoyed either with a) other people adopting it, or b) other people not doing it. maybe it's just me but it seems like "b" happens a lot in SCA because of the 'well that's not period at all' attitude

getting down with the creative anachronism is an important thing to enjoying it IMO

i mean the persona thing has to be fun

i play with swords, dress up in medieval garb... i'll even take the medieval period thing farther than most would with the camping out bit... but i'm going to be very thankful for the water truck, the port-a-potties, modern underwear, and very importantly, deodorant

anyway, last event i was at there was a guy dressed in feudal japanese garb walking hand in hand with his girlfriend, who was for some reason wearing her belly dancing gear while walkin' around

    ah, sca

sometimes it's like being in "soul calibur" or something

"hey, there's a renaissance era fencer... and a tokugawa era samurai... and a dude in friggin' beautiful late medeival period armor that he made himself (armor geeks are fascinating to talk to)... a viking dude who's got a damn accurate dark ages getup... hey that guy's armor is kinda lord of the rings-ish.. and that guy's a... a pirate...?"

my only beef with the pirate thing isn't that it's "not sca" but that in the events i've gone to they're just there to get drunk

i realize that this is like... a majority part of what people do at sca events

but for some reason when dudes get pirated up they get kinda rude about havin' a good time and kinda don't give a crap that there's this whole other thing going on that permits their revelry and that it's sorta impolite to carry on hollerin' wasted until 4 a.m.

aw dammit i don't want to be an sca snob

probably a very polite suggestion from the gentlemen and ladies at the entrance that you wear something else.

even though 'creative anachronism' grants some leniency, there are still guidelines for what is considered 'appropriate dress'.

and now i'm reminded of the mr. show sketch where guys from a sci-fi convention crash a ren faire or something like that
