Keynote Speaker Speculation Thread

Oh Hai fellow PAX'ers!

Although it's going to be tough to top Wil Wheaton's keynote from last year, does anyone have any thoughts on who might be the keynote speaker this year? I've been wracking my brain and can't possibly think who it would be.

Also, if there's another Q&A after the keynote, I would love to see a sequel to ACTIOOOOOON CAAAAASTLE!

Was it confirmed that Will won't be doing it?

For the sake of not derailing the thread... Other great names in Geekdom who love to talk about stuff are Kevin Smith, David Hewlett, Nathan Fillion, Shatner would be awesome, Robert Scoble, after that my mind draws a blank.

I just figured Wil wouldn't do it two years in a row. There hasn't been a 2 in a row keynote speaker for PAX yet has there?

If Kevin Smith or Nathan Fillion did it that would be awesome. I think I'd like to see either Cliffy B or Gabe Newell.

I'm hoping for Hideo Kojima, with absolutely no basis other than I missed an autograph signing by a month.

I would love to see Nathan Fillion, but I'm not sure he's really a "gamer's" representative... more just geek in general. But I'd still love it

And I'm still sad I missed Action Castle last year.

    Reggie... Nuff Said = P

I wouldn't be surprised if it's a developer at this point. We've already had a Geek-Icon speak. Figure it would make sense...

All I know is I'm not missing the keynote this year.

    Action Castle was amazing.

Even the line for the keynote was fun. I wonder how they're handling the lines this year.

I'm torn between wanting Wil to do it again (I had really a really crappy seat last year and couldn't even see the screen...for all I know Khoo came on with an iPod and hit play :P ) and wanting someone new. Nathan Fillion would be freaking awesomesauce. Joss Whedon would also be awesome, come to think of it. And I'd love to see Felicia Day. Kevin Smith would be amazing but I don't really expect that to happen. Oh! Adam Savage, he's part of the w00tstock crowd with Wil and Paul and Storm and I could totally see that happening. Martin Sheen in character as The Illusive Man? Now I'm just getting into fantasy.

Regardless of whether he's doing the keynote or not, I do hope Wil is there. This year I'll brave the line to get an autographed copy of Memories of the Future, I swear it!

As much as I would love to hear the kind of speech Wil gave last year in person, I hope they don't repeat. Otherwise it's really less of an annual keynote and more of an annual Wil Wheaton Speech.

I look forward to seeing who they come up with one way or another.

I was just thinking about doing something along those lines!

My plans for last year's Pax fell through (I managed to have an amazing time none the less), so I reverted to getting everyone's signature in the PA book. I was kind of hoping I would not be doing the Signature hunt again, but we are talking about Gabe, Tycho and Kurtz. Should not be too hard...

Damn now I have to buy yet more stuff before the trip :)

I would love to say Adam Savage, but regardless of his geek credentials I don't know if he's an actual gamer.

    Gabe Newell would be awesome.

Peter Molyneux. Just so he can say "This will be the greatest PAX ever" and afterwards claim that, for once, he didn't over-hype it.

I sincerely doubt it will be Khoo, but he could surprise me, and it would not be unwanted. Every time they try to get him to speak at a Q&A session, he storms out :p !

Also, Nathan Fillion would be a good fit. Someone mentioned he has had nothing to do with games, but that's not true. He's voiced in at least 3 games that I can think of, so he is somewhat familiar with the process. Besides, Wil is not a dev or designer and they both have geek cred.

I wonder what Yuji Naka is up to these days...

I must admit I would be partial to Nathan Fillion, heh. I'd walk around with a perma-smile the rest of PAX if he was the keynote speaker.

Wil sure left some large shoes to fill, in terms of epic speechy-ness. Yet, I'm sure whomever is the next keynote speaker will be able to take the same level of awesomeness in a whole new direction. I think Wil may have begun a keynote legacy ;)

That is an AWESOME idea. Kurtz should be easy, anyway; he and Straub were sitting all alone next to Wil when I went up to buy a Skull plush and the first Starslip book last year.

It was bad enough the first year of PAX East wasn't an original speaker, it'd be a really odd choice to repeat that same speaker for a second year in a row.

On another note, if are looking for actual celebrity gamers, there's always the guys behind South Park. I think this would bring a mix of strong feelings, both positive and negative with certain people.
