So I am buying a PS3 in a couple weeks and with so many good games out there I'm not sure which one I should get first. Could you guys give me some suggestions perhaps?

You have to buy Demon's Souls first or I will kill your children and shit down your beheaded neck.
You don't have to buy anything.
Hahaha! You mean business sir. I respect your threatening nature. I will definitely check demons souls out. I hear Mass Effect 2 is prodigious. I love me some KOTOR sir! Infamous is one I'm going to get for sure. I was also thinking about Dragon Age, can anyone speak for it?
Well, get the exclusives first if you have an XBOX or a gaming PC
stuff I think owning a PS3 is worth it for:
- Demon's Souls
- Uncharted 2 (you don't need to play Uncharted first, but it will enhance the experience)
- God of War III
that's...uh, that's pretty much all I own that I've played enough of to recommend as must-haves, but Little Big Planet, Valkyria Chronicles and Infamous often make the list
My wife and I really enjoyed Heavy Rain. though the replayability is pretty low unless you want to improve on your previous game, see the different endings, or our favorite, watch friends experience the horror anew.
Are you looking for exclusive suggestions only, or do you not have an Xbox? If that's the case, Bayonetta is pretty awesome. Mass Effect 2 is now on PS3 also.
Don't get Heavy Rain. It would be like paying 50 bucks for a really long, dull movie which requires you to press the play button every ten seconds or so.

I'm not necessarily looking for exclusives, just good games. I don't have an xbox, I am currently a PC gamer but I've wanted a PS3 for awhile.
Demon's Souls, Red Dead Redemption, both Uncharteds, inFamous.
Heavy Rain can be hit or miss for people. Some people hate it, some like it. I enjoy it.
Get both Dead Space's if you haven't already played them on the computer, they are fantastic.
The Ratchet and Clank games are pretty excellent.
LittleBigPlanet 1&2 are a bit of a mixed bag. Playing solo/with PUGs is kinda boring. If you have people who will come over for co-op it is a good time. And building stuff is fun.

Cool, thanks for the suggestions. Little big planet sorta reminds me of Mario party, ie good times with friends/boring shit by yourself. Heavy Rain is intriguing, although it does sort of seem like an interactive movie. Do you have any real control of the events or are you just along for the ride? In ther words do your actions in the game effect the outcome of the story?

it's pretty well the opposite - particularly if you're at all creative, you'll be so entrenched in your machinations that you'll want nothing more than an uninterrupted stretch of 27 hours to just tweak that last trigger, wait, maybe you should add a crunching sound effect, and that platform there isn't quite positioned right for the player's death leap, should it be adjuste-ding-shouldn't it be adjusted to the right a bit? so that-ding ding-fuck, pizza? i ordered pizza? i'll just pretend i'm not home so i can finish decorating this tree here with a little flower and an apple maybe, one that explodes, or shoots at you then explodes...
You keep not mentioning Uncharted in your responses OP, is there a reason?

There is no good reason, I just don't know much about it. From what ive seen it looks like an indiana jones/tomb raider adventure/puzzle game. But I could be wrong. I've never been onto those types of games but I'm willing to give it a try.

I had a ton of fun with Dragon Age on ps3! It can be a bit glitchy, especially with a few trophies, but it really is a fun game. Mage is the way to go for AOE killing fun. ;-)
Unharted and Uncharted 2 are definitely a must and should be the first games you pick up. If you're a fan of old school Zelda, check out 3D Dot Game Heroes sometime.

Both. The game itself is mostly quick time events and dialog with some exploring/investigating sprinkled in.
But your decisions definitely affect the events in the game to significant degrees.

There should be a demo on PSN. I suggest you try that first. I don't want to sound like an ass, but I just think it's an awful game with an insultingly poor story and it worries me when people are lured in by its false promises of something unique.

There's a shitton of stuff on PSN as well. A fan of any genre can find a lot to keep themselves amused.
As for disc-based, recently I've been having fun with blur and Darksiders, both of which are cheap(er) now. GoW III is great, AssCreed 2 I think is supposed to be quite a bit better than 1.

I think I'm going to download final fantasy tactics as well as final fantasy 6 if it's available.
if you have a capable PC, get Dragon Age for that instead.
FFXIII
Resonance of Fate
Arkham Asylum
Also Assassin's Creed 1 is really good, it's just that 2 is awesome. Get 1 first.
Final fantasy XIII is definitely on my list. I have played a FF since X and I like that one, except for tidus, he was a whiny bitch. But auron was the man!

Yeah, Bioshock is not a shooty shooter. Elements of survival horror and rpgs. It's a spiritual successor to System Shock, and gets shelved with Dead Space and Deus Ex.
They've all been mentioned, but Batman: Arkham Asylum and Darksiders for multiplatform games and Valkyria Chronicles and Infamous for PS3 exclusives are definitely worth looking at.

Don't tell him to get Uncharted 2 without plying the original first!
Little Big Planet 2 is awesome, though.

Uncharted and Uncharted 2 should be the first though.
Seconding inFamous as well.

Final Fantasy VII (Sony Store)
Final Fantasy IX (Sony Store)

that said, buy uncharted and uncharted 2
I beat final fantasy VII so many times already. IX on the other hand I never tried... And mass effect 2 is at the top of my list I think

Very awesome.
1 has the atmosphere, 2 has better game play. Start with 1.
I'll do that. I'm really looking forward to the new Deus Ex. I played the one on xbox and loved it!

A lot of people jerk off on it, but it is definitely not for everyone.
I vote for Borderlands and Batman Arkham Asylum. Those are two purchase-worthy games.
Dragon Age is also a good purchase if you are into those types of RPG's.

Namely Borderlands. Or Killzone 2.
