Movies That Are Educational and Fun to Watch: Documentaries
But if you watch the right stuff, you can learn lots and lots by watching DOCUMENTARIES!!!
Here are some that I've watched lately:
A cool little documentary about how small breweries are fighting against the likes of Budweiser and Coors to get you drunk.
Some people think it's funny. I thought it was depressing as shit. A look at just how fucked up one family in WV can be.
Made by the notorious graffiti artist Banksy, it looks into how one guy got into graffiti just to make money. It is a neat look into some of the more popular artist's lives. It has gotten a lot of notice from celebrities lately.
Have you fellas seen anything good lately? Recommend them! Tell us about them!
I have the raw files still, but it is not posted anywhere in case we ever entered it into a film festival (we will never do this but my partner is a god damn lawyer and a tight ass)
It was just a ten minute doc but I was pretty proud of it. It was about a pretty famous Alabama blues-man named Willie King. He died about a year and a half after we completed it.
The last one I saw was Waiting for Superman. Which was alright. Important stuff but I didn't like the narrator's voice which is a petty thing considering the subject matter.
But before that I saw Deliver Us From Evil. Which was awesome
I can't post the cover art because it's questionable NSFW, but This Film Is Not Yet Rated is a pretty interesting little documentary/search to find out who is on the MPAA Ratings board and what their criteria for rating movies is.
So this isn't really about documentary films, but a few weeks ago I heard this interview on NPR about a woman who would take pictures of people in their houses, without their permission, and then post the pictures in galleries.
It's the most angry I've been at art in basically forever.
Other british people who make good documentaries: Brian Cox with all his Horizon business, and Simon Reeve with his 'travel to central asian dictatorships and ask people things that make the government unhappy' business

aren't snuff films mostly a huge hoax? other than just somone videotaping a killing, but to have an entire movie and people in it for the express purpose of really dying at the end
NFL Film's "America's Game" series. They've made one for every Superbowl championship team in league history and they're all (but the two most recent) available on Hulu for free watching.
They're 45 minute episodes chronicling the entire season of each Championship team, and they interview three key members of the team to guide the episode.
I've never watched one I didn't find really interesting and compelling, but I am a big football fan. They are seriously well crafted films though. Don't think this is just a collection of highlights because that's hardly it.
The most recent one I've watched, which immediately became a favorite, was the 1988 San Fransico 49ers.

if i remember right, it all boiled down to everybody saying that its all a hoax, aside from a few murderers videotaping their crimes
except for one guy that used to buy porn films to release under a big production company. he talked about being blindfolded and led to a hotel room where some sketchy guys from taiwan showed him an actual film

is sean penn a snuff film director?
Sean Penn saw some weird Japanese movie of a woman getting hacked up by a guy in a samurai costume, thought it was real, and somehow used his Sean Penn powers to get the film maker arrested in Japan.
Edit: Never mind, it was Charlie Sheen. Charlie Sheen powers.

yes clearly charlie sheen is a bastion of truthfulness and dependability
the sites a bit slow but this is a link to a documentary about host bars in japan, where women come in and pay to spend time with some hunky dudes
and the dudes get the chicks to fall in love with them and want to spend all their life savings and give up everything to be with them
so they are all pretty fucked because the dudes are all dead on the inside and the women are desperate and hopeless
it is called The Great Happiness Space - The Tale of an Osaka Love Thief
