We all know how important sound is to a videogame. Ideally, the audio will captivate us, both with memorable music, pleasant sound effects, and believable voice acting.
But more often than naught, there are some sounds that will simply irritate you, if not keep you from playing entirely.
This thread lets us vent on such audible abominations. I'm not just referring to bad voice acting; dig deep into your tortured psyche and recount the worst of the black noise.
Personally, I can't stand anything that sounds either out of context, or so blatant that it has to let everyone in my house know that "HEY THIS GUY'S PLAYING SOMETHING INAPPROPRIATE".
Take for instance Dead or Alive. The game's visuals are blatant enough, with Team Ninja constantly pushing the envelope with more bounciness and outfits barely held together by string.
No biggie, just keep those doors closed, right? Not so easy during the first game, when this song starts playing:

Then there are games you wouldn't be embarrassed to be playing within eye shot, like Arkham Asylum....at least until you get to Poison Ivy's boss fight:

While the character's supposed to be an enticing seductress, her voice actress clearly went overboard during what was supposed to be an awesome boss battle. Good luck explaining this one if you own a home theater.
Then there are those repetitive sound effects that originally may not sound offensive, but quickly get annoying after hearing it for the 1,000th time. Take for instance Valkyria Chronicles 2: great sequel, great cast of characters.

But after about 10 hours of hearing that laugh in every cutscene, you start to develop a rupture in your bowels every time it creeps back up. Never have I wanted a "voices off" button so badly in a game.
And finally, an old "favorite":

I always thought that was the high point of the game.

If you make it to the end of that, you're braver than I.
Fun starts at :30
As for me, I can't fine a recording of it, but the sound that plays in the first TMNT for the NES at low life was horrible and unnecessary. The game was also hard enough that I would hear it often.
Actually I hate any sound that plays when you have low life, but that one was the worst.
Case in point
X3 Terran Conflict is also infamously bad in this regard, and the voicework for UFO Aftermath could best be described as "foreign exchange students and Deliverence casting rejects on a flaming speeding shortbus with one normal man trying to avert further travesty".

Footsteps are fine when they sound like footsteps but when you continuously have to listen to what sounds like a tapdancer going to town on a polished oak floor with a megaphone strapped to his shoes it drives me mad.

Fuckin' love Jet Set Radio. It's in my top 3 games of all time...but this fuckin' song.
My sister still occasionally teases me about it...over 10 years later.

Jesus is this what the X series turned into? I'm so glad I stopped at X4.

That still takes the backseat to this beauty for me.

Birthday Cake is literally the worst song ever made. I say this with no hyperbole. It is the worst song I have ever heard in my life.

I did enjoy it when it showed up in the parody level in Bayonetta, though.
Let me introduce you to a little game called Xtreme Paintbrawl.

I'm so sorry.
This was going to be my next post.
I absolutely can't stand any escape sequence that loops an alarm noise or an emergency recording.
I know I need to escape, shut the fuck up!
I've heard some weird shit in my games, but good golly what in the fuck.
It sounds like a school song from hell about the letter V.
Veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, Veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Another thing that irritates me is most of the menu sound effects from Dragon Age: Origins, particularly the ones where you're collecting items or when inventory is full.
It sounds like someone scrapping their fingernails through wood. Ugh....

No, but JSRF used more licensed music than the first game, and if you can believe it
Birthday Cake is actually a legitimate song
That really is worse. Wow.
Not from a game, but the above reminds me of:

AQUA BURST!
This song, THIS FUCKING SONG
Whenever this shit starts up I just want to fucking THROTTLE whomever worked up the basic concept in his head and went "yeah, I'd want to hear that on and off again for several hours". And since this is the fightin' music for the majority of the first act...
Come to think of it, really, that whole expansion was more or less god-awful noises. The music was anywhere from unnoticably passable to RAAAAAAAAAGE, and the henchmen were the most annoying bunch of voicework-spewing shits I've ever had to deal with in a game. Fuckin' terrible.
EDIT: Oh fuckin' Jesus, I never listened more than five seconds to BD's boss music but just figured it for some decent basic metal, I didn't know it had fucking lyrics and shit.
The battle music consisted of "percussion" and nothing else. A very simple beat, but it sounded as if they had intended to put some additional instrumentation in there but forgot.

BEEP BEEP BEEP CSHH BEEP CSHH CSHH GRRRT BEEP BEEP
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sC0cvwnG0Ik
Oh man, yes. I remember trying to convince myself that the game didn't actually have music; those beeps were just some early warning detection system that told me how many planes were headed in my direction.
My Backloggery
I actually liked that song. though they didn't need to use it on every boss battle in the game.
