Super 8 - From the man who DIDN'T direct Cloverfield
In the summer of 1979, a group of friends in a small Ohio town witness a catastrophic train crash while making a super 8 movie and soon suspect that it was not an accident. Shortly after, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in town, and the local Deputy tries to uncover the truth – something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined.
This is how you sell a movie.
Really, everything in this trailer looks amazing to me. Cinematography, music, and performances feel so much like the old Amblin films from years past, as does the tone in general. And it looks like this'll be a summer tentpole film that's primarily character-driven, which is fantastic.

This movie looks pretty neat. I stopped watching the trailer 3/5ths of the way through though because I hate it when trailrs give away too much of the movie.

Looking forward to it.

I remember hearing that one of the alien monster things Kirk runs into on the snow planet is actually a miniature (relative to the original) version of the Cloverfield monster. Was that confirmed?

When I saw the Star Trek I thought so, but when I actually saw the models they did of it, not so much. It's got some of the same arm wonkiness that Page loves to do.
Cloverfield- Spoilered for frame breakage.
And Star Trek

Oh shit, thinking about it, they do look kinda similar. I remember seeing a figurine you could buy of the Cloverfield monster, it had some resemblances.
As for Super 8, I'm stoked! I was intrigued from the first teaser however long ago it came out. The music gives me such a huge Close Encounters of the Third Kind vibe. I'm A LITTLE concerned the focus is on the kids but I think Abrams and Spielberg can make it work.
This summer is going to be soooo good for movies, I'm gonna be poor.
edit: Ah didn't see those comparisons, yeah they aren't quite the same.
The big mamma, which resembles the Star Trek monster the most
The medium brute, the one featured in the above spoiler
and the little tinies from the subway scene.
I don't think the big mamma was an exact copy of the Star Trek monster, but I'm p sure they were made by the same designer/design company
There were only two in monsters in Cloverfield. The main monster, Clover, and the little lice parasites that popped off of it.
And yeah, Neville Page did creature design in Cloverfield and Star Trek. I just never really liked his style. I can't put my finger on why. Maybe that they just don't have a lot of personality to 'em or something.

Dear satan I wish for this or maybe some of this....oh and I'm a medium or a large.
Interesting explosions, though
Unless the opposite happens, like it did with Cloverfield
Similarly, I am all abuzz on Super 8.
I have a feeling they're gonna spend the whole movie hinting at that the cargo is, and we'll never really find out.
The Abrams "Mystery Box" his favorite technique.

moral of the story? shaky cam does not lead to makeouts.
Yeah, which makes me worry because I wanna see a movie about a monster I dont care about these damn kids
I don't know, are you saying Star Trek was a fluke?

Cloverfield
Star Trek
Lost
Super 8
One of these things is not like the others....
Or work on Lost much past season one
Doesn't stop his touch from being extremely apparent

For some reason I thought Spielberg was directing.
He's EP or something?

Though Neville Paige doing the creature design is not a huge plus in my book.

Ohio is like the everyman of the US.
We need an image change or something. Get me a leather jacket, some pomade, a vintage indian and I will make this happen.
