Actually the game is available right now, it wasn't street dated. A lot of gamestop's have been selling it since friday or so. I'm waiting though because obviously Clover didn't make this, so I'm not sure if it'll have the same magic. I'm afraid it might be like Viewtiful Joe 2 (Although Clover DID make that....).
Still waiting for a HD re-release of Okami on PS3...
Siliconera: I'm sure you know this, but a lot of Okami fans want an Okami game in HD.
Motohide Eshiro: Yeah, I’ve heard requests like that way before even. Our goal with this game is to make an Okami game you can bring with you and play at any time. The whole point of being on a portable system is you can have Okamiden whenever you want it. That’s why we decided to put it on Nintendo DS.
As far as a HD version goes, I understand why Okami fans would want such a graphic improvement over the original. I wouldn’t rule anything out. After this game comes out, if the response is good and people still want an HD Okami it will be something I definitely consider.
For now, I hope Okami fans and fans who want Okami HD will try out Okamiden and enjoy it for what it is, a portable Okami experience. Then maybe later down the line we can talk about something HD.
Translation: Want Okami HD? Buy Okamiden. Lots and lots of copies of Okamiden. -source-

It was actually just a purchase at PAX East. Capcom announced on Friday that response was so huge they'll be selling them on the site.. both the plush and the pillow-plushie. Relax, guys. ;-)

Same thing was said for Okami Wii and Klonoa Wii. They both sold like pants.

Seriously why does this game (technically a series now I guess) have such a hard time making sales? The original was a better zelda game than the same generation zelda game!

Seriously? Hmm. I played maybe two hours of Okami and didn't like it at all. Plus you know the answer to that... Zelda can sell just by it's name, and Okami sounds like some weird Japanese game.

Okami wii was a criminal act and all involved should be hung.
Fuck that Tree dance.
That I enjoy the series in spite of that god awful port is a testament to it's charm and humor.
So far the sequel isn't better and its' definitely not Portable friendly( it's got I think 30 minutes of cutscenes before you even meet your first partner and you still use the mirrors to save not a pick up and play title) but as a proper sequel it is so far acceptable.

I have a podcast now. It's about video games and anime!Find it here.
But seriously, Okami was indeed a better Zelda game than post-WW games. Which means I may very well have to buy this, especially if the game has the same friendly to bad gamers gameplay and incredible humour.

The opening is BRUTALLY slow to get going. The rest of the game is a fucking smooch on the ear with a reach around.

Ugh, again with the cutscenes. Thanks for the warning. And what the hell is it with portable games and hard save spots?
Portable game= SAVE ANYWHERE
A handheld has the ability to be put into sleep mode at any time. That's why I'm not going to get chuffed about fixed save points in a handheld. If something comes up, I can just shut the DS lid.
If anything it's console games that need to have the ability to save anywhere. That's the situation where if something suddenly comes up, I'm screwed unless I want to leave the thing on pause for hours.

True, but half the time when I use sleep on my DS or PSP the game either heads back to the title screen or just freezes up and I'm not the only one that happens to judging from the threads I bitch about that on GameFAQs. Consoles can pause for hours because they're plugged in but, yeah, I would like save anywhere in every game.

I've never played any of the games, but sometimes things just don't work for unknown reasons. A game could have a fresh concept, beautiful artwork and some of the strongest talent working behind the project to truly make something special, and yet it doesn't sell at all. Every now and then this happens regardless of medium, and the studio usually has to do a couple of shallow projects in order to get back into the financial green.
Hell, if we're talking similar circumstances with another medium, look at Universal; They took some serious big-budget, original film project risks last year that put them in the deep red. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World bombed hard in the box office, even though it was a critical success and had a ton of advertising muscle behind it. Now they've got to make a bunch of shovel-ware movies like Battleship and Monopoly just to get back to where they were.
Okami could very well be one of those series that never really catches that break. It happens.

I might try and get around to it then. But the problem is that I've got so many games to play now that it's hard to focus on a game that is slow to get going.

Oh god.
So cute.
I'm getting one if I have to resort to bribery so be it
Whilst it's nice to see it receiving solid scores, the only online readable review there is pretty damn brief.
Any ideas if it's possible to get the plush outside of pre-ordering?
As a fellow islander I'm sorry to inform you we never get pre-order bonuses anyway. EBay is going to be the only way.
really

It's definitely good. Touch screen is responsive they fixed that issue with the Sun/bloom and it's funny as the original.
And god Chibi is adorable.
