So celebrity sightings

We've all got a few stories, I've met, among others, Joss Whedon, Eliza Dushku, Stephen Frears, Rob Lowe was at my house for a few minutes, MC Hammer went to the gym near my work one time

But some are different

I drove up to Sydney yesterday with my Dad for some pretty mundane reasons

We're driving back tomorrow night, so we only had one day to do stuff

I find out that Jersey Boys, the musical about Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons is in town, and we get some great last minute tickets. I was the only one in my family who hadn't seen it in Melbourne due to some weird scheduling conflict that I can't remember

Before the show I heard rumblings, but then during interval I turn around and there he was, five rows away

I walked up to him, literally shaking
"mr Valli?"
"Yeah?"
"Can you sign my ticket please?"
"sure."

I have, in my hand, an autograph from Frankie Valli, who I met at the musical about his life, on the one day I ended up a ten hour drive from home and in the audience of a show I just happened to have wanted to see

That's a real celebrity story

So what crazy encounters have you had with celebrities guys?

I had dinner with a guy who had a share of a Nobel Prize. Not a good one though, it was the Peace one. I can't remember his name either, but he was an Australian chap who wasn't into his booze. That made me a bit sad. It was odd, I'd gone there as a favour for a girl whose pants I was keen on having a gander at, but then everybody bailed and I ended up in a weirdly intimate dinner with this guy.

I never understood autographs. Its just an odd request and desire of all things to remember someone you consider special.

I mean the best thing would probably to ask for a locke of hair or some blood.

I don't know where the line is drawn on someone being a celebrity.
I have had the artist-in-residence for Hamburg 1998 in my house. He is a cool dude.
He has an ear growing out of his arm.

I met Timmy mallett once. At camelot. He hit me on the head with a large foam mallett.

This probably won't mean much to Americans (or English folk under the age of about 25) but it meant a lot at the time.

Oh I didnt get an autograph from SJ. He was just hanging out and observing the free play area and commenting here and there. Plus it didnt really seem like a big deal.

I'm in Toronto with the gf

Walking down Queen st I believe.

I stop at a light.... riiiiiight next to Mos Def...

we happen to be walking in the same direction, I'm letting him walk ahead of me (I'm considerably taller than him so I could have passed him whenever I wanted, but I wanted to see where he was going!)

As I'm walking people are turning their heads "Mos def, mos def, etc..." to eachother

I'm getting pretty excited cause I like Mos Def alot so it'd be cool to say hi to him or something.

His buddy walks into the adidas store, he stands outside and pulls out his phone
I only have a couple seconds before that phone conversation starts, so I'd better say something really cool.

I step like I'm passing him and make eye contact...

    "Mos def?"

    <he nods>

    I'm all "Peace, man..."

    Take one step forward...

WHAM, right into this lady talking on her phone carrying shopping bags, not paying attention to where she's going...

    UGHHHHHHHH

I don't think I've ever really met anyone famous.

Dan Marino would infrequently rent from the Blockbuster I worked at. The only time I ever really spoke to him was when he once asked me if I knew which movie was it that had Ed Norton playing a retarded guy. Other than that he acted like any other customer. Better actually. Patiently waited in line. Payed any fees without complaint.

The movie was The Score, just in case anyone cares!
