    Soooo

I played my buddies Emperor's Children force last night, and I let him take demons out of the current demon book because a) fuck how they split demons and chaos marines between two books and b) sadly both books are a bit crappy especially in the Slaanesh area.

I tabled him. Lost seven assault marines, two tactical marines and a chaplain. I actually felt bad because I was like "OK wounding the seekers on 4's with boltguns right?" and he just shook his head at me. 3's. what the hell. Daemonettes have WS 5 though right? to offset being a T3 5++ model with a points cost in the mid teens they have a bunch of high initiative, high weapon skill rending attacks right? No.

Man that demons book sucks balls.

Also Noise Marines are horrendously overpointed. They cost as much as a Grey Knight for Christs sake. Give them their funky sound gun and they cost as much as a Grey Knight with a Halberd. This guy loves Emperor's children and Slaanesh and has thousands of points of them languishing in cases most of the time.

    Chaos need new books desperately.

Also Land Speeder Typhoons continue to be utterly amazing every time.

All I can think of since the Khorne/Slaneesh Demon Prince is:

He's a bloodthirsty raging demon. She's a hedonistic monster from another dimension. Together, they fight crime!

And the Imperium. And everyone else.

Honestly I don't think GK's will change things up at all. The kinds of lists you already see won't have to adjust much to GK's - the ways to kill them are almost entirely the same as how you deal with other marine armies or Orks. They're still just regular marines for all intents and purposes (T4/3+ being the most important things), other than the fact that there's fewer of them.

This is the main reason I decided to take a Vindi over a Dakka Pred in my Astro list. I expect to see plenty of GK there this year...

I think I have it narrowed down to one of these lists: List one - List two

    - edit
whoops. I left all the wargear rules and crap in there. If I was home I would re-save those lists.

They got rid of the squats because no one at the studio liked them. By the time second edition rolled around, the people at GW were cringing at the name and had no idea what to really do with the army. It'd gone in one distinct direction for the 6mm Epic game, with lots of heavy vehicles and armor, while the 40 rendition had biker dwarves on tricycles and power armored eggs whose attitude was pretty much the FB dwarves in space.

With no one at GW having any enthusiasm at all to work on them, they got pulled along for a while in 2nd edition before the plug was finally pulled.

There is a guy at my LGS who has a huge army of Squats. All his infantry are original models or converted WHFB dwarven models. He uses the current IG codex for rules, and has done a fabulous job converting some WW2 tank models into Chimera's/Russ's/stuff. I haven't seen him down at the store recently, but next time I do I'll try and snag some pictures since it's a pretty hilariously fabulous army.

I've always thought it would be a fun project to convert dwarves (or now the new Forge World Chaos Dwarves) into a squats army. It would be....a ton of work though.

Squats were eaten because of several things, the first of them being "we named an entire species after a synonym for diarrhoea. What the hell were we on?"

Other stated reasons include the fact that they basically had no room for creative expansion, as in "OK, hairy dwarf bikers are good I guess, now where do we go from here?" Especially since they started with Fantasy Dwarfs then 'fixed' all the problems with Dwarf armies in Fantasy, those being lack of manoeuvrability and lack of magic. That is, they removed the bits that gave the army its character and replaced them with a hell's angels pastiche.

Also, they were yet another stable abhuman mutation but weren't technically part of the Imperium, which meant they didn't exactly fit with the new, even-more-hard-line Imperium we know and love today.

Thus the squats were eaten, their planets scoured and their slot in the codex rotation freed up to insert something else, preferably a xenos species, even if it is a bit short and hairy.

Yay painting day! I am down to 3 normal csm, 1 noise marine(with a sonic blaster) and a noise champ with a doom siren I may or may not paint more towards my normal colors so I can use him more. The noise marine gets the pink/black treatment like an emperors children though. I have the pink mix down to an art. But with those two done all my normal csm will be done. Then I will have to finish my termis, a vindicator, a rhino, and a land raider and my army will will be fully painted.

That's pretty cool Matrias, Last Stand was probably my favourite part of the game, now if only my computer didn't have so much lag it makes it impossible to play online...

Anyway just played a pretty fun game against guard with my melee nids. I decided to throw caution to the wind and just deploy everything via outflank or DS, which worked out pretty well.

I also switched out the ymgarl stealers for the Doom of Malan'tai who actually managed to do something; killing an unusually large number of models from spirit leech, surviving 90+ lasgun shots (admittedly losing 9 wounds in the process) and headbutting the battle cannon off of a Leman Russ.

My opponents dice rolls were very much against him though; his first orders of the game rolled up double 6s on the conscripts, I don't think he passed a single Spirit Leech without taking at least one casualty and his heavy weapons/tanks were either being manned by baboons or firing hot air at my units...

Pask's Punisher getting wrecked on turn 2 before it could do anything probably didn't help his chances either.

The downside to Carnifexes is for that you are paying for the pretty awesome dual scything talons, and when you upgrade, you're paying more to lose those and get the new weapons.

That said, twin devourers are meant to be pretty nasty. Stick one in a pod and you have a rampaging menace droping behind their lines that doesn't need synapse control thanks to Instinctive Behaviour - Feed. It will just run around wrecking shit, but remember you won't get to fire those devourers after the first turn its down until you get it back in synapse range.

Also Squats died primarily because of lack of sales/interest. I always find it funny how everyone is quick to complain about GW being an evil money grabbing bunch of sell outs, yet somehow there is still a huge conspiracy to keep them dead when so many people loved them.

I asked my bro about them one time actually. He said there's no real official stampdown or anything on them, and if someone in the studio came up with a decent pitch to bring them back they probably would. But no one has since 1st edition so I wouldn't hold your breath.

I think they'd be do-able as non-joke Space Dwarves. Like, they tool around in fleets of ships mining precious metals and trading with xeno's that are willing to, make them prime craftsman with neat solid shot weapons and non-dumb vehicles.

That's not a far step from what we know of Squats, but less a "ROFL SPACE DWARVES!" and more of a "We're hardened miners and clan warriors. Bring it while we roll out our gnarly tanks!"

While I think it would be cool (if they mini's were done right), I have to admit the last thing 40k needs is another codex to back everything up.

Yeah, another thing lots of people don't seem to consider when wondering why there is no codex for stuff like Adeptus Mechanicus (or squats or whatever) is it would also have to have a distinct play style to other books. Guard already do masses of armour, tau do the heavy high tech armour thing (badly, but that's meant to be part of their style) and marines do the heavy tank plus resilient infantry thing. You also have necrons in the "tough and hard to kill" playstyle camp. So Squats would have a hard time fitting in with something radically different, I think.
