[Dungeon Fighter Online]: Free-to-play Brawler MMO...With Anime!

Well this looks like fun, doesn't it? It is! I learned about this game a month or so ago by watching Extra Credits talk about games you should check out. I've been playing it for about a week or so (when baby-duties allow) and it's a pretty fun little brawler. A mini-review, for your edification:

Things which are good!: -It's free, my favorite flavor!
-Lots of different classes to play and skills to learn
-Pretty good management systems to keep everything organized
-Quite pretty.
-So far, the pay-stuff seems to just change your appearance and/or help you make cool gear, nothing that breaks the game or turns it into a Moneyfight (tm).

Things which are bad: -It takes a while to get any sort of difficult.
-Lots of decisions to make without knowing what those decisions necessarily mean.
-There are people on it. I'm hoping a few like-minded, relatively sane PA people might join me on there so I don't have to learn the ridiculous code that, of course, has sprung up in place of conversations about gear and group requests.

Things you probably want to know: -Always be doing an 'Epic Quest'. That's how you unlock new dungeons to go brawl in. If you don't, you'll end up having to go back to underpowered stuff.
-Use the map. You can mouse over people to see what they sell. Everyone sells something, though you won't care about most of it.

Come join! Play! Enjoy! Make a clan with me. We'll use English and proper punctuation and everything. We'll call ourselves Clan Syntax, or some such nonsense.

My priest was pretty BA, but it gets repetitive quickly. Might check it out again soon though.

Liked the pugilist class, although the grind was a bit much.

I tried making a male gunner and it seemed interesting. I'll probably try out the other classes a bit before picking a main. I'll need to read through the website a bit as right now I'm utterly confused on how any of the menus and skills work.

My ign is xcletus10. Mail me or chat me up sometimes if you ever need help with anything. I recently started playing again because they just released new end-game dungeons. They require more strategy then just mashing one button and it is really fun (or frustrating depending on my group mates).

My ign is Spunkrake. I've been playing a grappler, kind of selected randomly. I'm considering starting again with some other classes as well. There's a couple of lvl 20 missions where you roll with a high level slayer NPC and his stuff looks way cooler than mine. I suppose I should wait until I get a few more high level skills before dumping on grapplers too much, but punch-punch-punch suplex isn't all that satisfying.

Hey, does anyone know a good source for DFO info? Wiki or FAQ or something? I'm sure the info is out there somewhere, but wading through the forums is an exercise in frustration.

Grapplers are pretty amazing and get ridiculously flashy if you're into over-exaggerated wrestling moves. I played one myself for quite a while and had a lot of fun with it. You can pull off some crazy combos.

Tried this out. IGN is Niruida, and running a Female Gunner hopefully going into the Mech spec. It's pretty fun, reminds of Dragonica. I haven't run with a party yet, can't seem to find one that's doing what I'm doing.

Is anybody still playing this? I picked it up a few days ago, and it's pretty fun, but it'd be kind of neat to be in a guild that isn't complete randoms. And I guess now that bit in the OP about RMT not buying actual character advantages is no longer true. Though I do love my striker.

I'm still playing although it feels like I'm the only one sometimes. If you're looking for a guild full of cool people then join mine TheForsaken . You can request to join ingame and I'll approve it when I log in. I still get on and play everyday. If you need any help or materials let me know.

I've basically not done any communicating in this game. Do I just send a mail to xcletus10 then?
As far as help, just having someone to do some of the Master and King's Road quests in Behemoth would be nice.
And you thought escort quests in WoW were bad...
And also I guess this way I can finally do those mentor and join a party/guild quests. Hooray!

Oh hey, speaking of communicating, is there anyway to mute people? Cause all those gold selling spammers get really annoying, and apparently the Block User option doesn't mute them in the general chat. And switching to a tab like system or party apparently doesn't hide those message either?

    steam_sig.png
  • nomenome Registered User regular
You can send mail to me, that will work fine to let me know your ign. You can also add me to your friends list (press L ) and whisper me (use the command /w xcletus ) when you see me online. All my names are xcletus followed by a number because I suck at coming up with names.

You can mute individuals but there is a limited number of space to your mute list. I believe you just click on their name or character then click on Block. I don't even pay attention to those gold sellers anymore.

I'm enjoying this so far. Quite a bit in fact. All the subclasses feel really different, or at least sound really different. I have a necro, and the whole battlemage thing is really cool.

I"m on the East Coast Cain server as Lvl23 Tchel or my lil gunner Alagory if anyone wants to hang out ever.

Okay, I literally cannot create a character because every name I try is taken or something. I've even tried far out stuff. Even Homncruse! Homncruse! Are you telling me there's another person out there that played Secret of the Stars on the SNES, and just so happened to create a character with the same name in an obscure koreagrind multiplayer brawler!? What the fuck?

  • TofystedethTofystedeth Registered User regular
Dude, you should have seen my face when Pushtigban was taken. I was like "Really? In all of WoW, the biggest online game ever, I was the only Pushtigban, and someone in Dungeon Fighter already got it?"

I finally got in. My Slayer's name is Deftinstrife. (Deftinwolf was taken, again: what the fuck?) Seems cool so far.

I couldn't get Zeph, Zephe, Zephyr, Zephy, but finally got Zephey for my mage, who's now a 19 witch. Tchel's now a 23 Necro. Battlemages are so weird to me.

I have a Grappler Salsalita who's 28 now and then my 25 necro Tchel, and my 19 witch Zephey. If anyone wants to party at any point just PM me here or /w me in game. I'm on evenings EST.

So my grappler's 35 now and I'm still loving it. The game's finally killing me probably about once per master or King's mode boss fight. I kinda regret the Necro though. I think I'm going make a Rogue sometime tonight or something. I hope I'm not the only PA guy playing still...

Male Fighters are dropping Monday, apparently. They won't have their Awakening, though.

And apparently Korea JUST got Male Mages. Can't see to find a good video of the various subclasses.

Edit: the next big update for us will be Innovation (or whatever they'll localize it as;) 800x600 default resolution, redone graphics and revamped towns, slashed exp curve, removal of SP books and stat stones, avengers (the fourth priest subclass), and numerous other changes. This will probably come early summer at the latest.

SP is now baked in from leveling and TP are bought with SP, resettable Quest Points (granted from quests) lets you choose what stats you want.

These are the patch notes from Innovation if you want to look over them.

Ah, I may have to jump in with my Necro again then. I hadn't played since the thief release and tried coming back. But the area I was at was a ghost town and this game is soooo much more fun teamed up.
Same here pretty much. Plus, my main is a fighter, and I wasn't terribly good with her. Plus I got to a point where I'm too awful at the game to solo.

I liked playing my thief though, Just juggling enemies until they didn't live anymore.

Second the awesomeness of Rogues. I made one the other day, also put some rl Cash into her, and she's now my highest level. The contact point system is pretty fun when you get a good combo down. Half the fun is trying to come up with better juggles.

Is it the hat trick thing? Because trying to get the other two games to install was like pulling teeth. Dragon's nest took a lot of effort and Vindictus wouldn't start at all.
