I remember my first Vaio.
It was also my last one. :P
well, I'd punch a lot of people
that's why we call it the struggle, you're supposed to sweat
THIS. I work in tech support and it annoys me to no end when people start putting instructions up with simple wording and nothing that actual gives step by step instructions. Most recently I've seen this on every Android tech forum while I was trying to figure out how to root and load a custom ROM on one of my devices. Having never used Android before and people throwing out adb, Dalvik cache, and recovery without any reference to how to do what they were asking, or linking to another thread that contained instructions on how to do what they were asking is really irritating. I got it all worked out after doing some heavy reading across multiple websites, but it would have been extremely easy for these people to just be a bit more helpful.
"First, remove your backseats. Then the door panels." Well what the fuck, where are the instructions for that?
Ditto.
But hey, while I had it I did have people tell me was the "most Mac-looking Windows laptop they'd ever seen." For whatever that's worth. :P
"First, become a sphere."
"Become a what?"
"Then, simply enter this ancient stone rhino."
About equivalent experiences, really
(mechwarrior 2 was worth this hassle god damnit)
My god was it ever worth it.
Every now and then they'll throw out some bizarre fucking term that makes you go cross eyed. I'll be all, wait wait wait wait. Get out of jargon mode. Start making sense, god damn it.
"This isn't your free birth mother's hovertub."
I ran that on windows 95. 8-) Very little hassle, unless you wanted to go online.
Over AOL and Kali.
...and he's got a completely different problem than you.
or the one where you carefully describe your very specific problem and the hardware you're using (GF550, 3.61 driver)
and some knob says "post ur DXDIAG nobody can help u if you don't post your Dxdiag omfg noob!"
as if somehow the long-form driver description on your mouse or network card is going to be relevant with a video or sound glitching issue etc...
But on the other hand, if they'd just told you what to do, you wouldn't have learned as much as you did by figuring it out on your own from their starting points. I bet you're in a much better position now to change or fix things on Android then if they'd just given you the big letters step by step pop up book instructions. If you work in tech support, you probably get loads of questions that could have been answered with a google search and patience.
Imagine a world where everyone, even elderly family members, showed some interest in figuring computer problems out, instead of just declaring it 'broken', or 'gone' (windows cannot be gone!).
I'll help you get your shit working, but if you're too lazy to research your problem and call me in to do it for you, I'm not gonna have much sympathy for your plight.
Except Grim Fandango
glad I got that to run
I want to put the disc in the drive, and I want the game to play, and for that to be the end of the fucking story

I don't usually even do that much work. I click the thing on Steam and that's the end of the fucking story.
your = belonging to you
their = belonging to them
there = not here
they're = they are
I've seen plenty of times where that isn't actually the case
about as many times as I have computer issues
issues that I can usually fix and not always have to wait for a new patch
not saying it's perfect
but it's about as reliable as any game console
Twitch (I stream most days of the week)
Twitter (mean leftist discourse)
