The pictures on the right of Clanranald are inaccurate, only the little one that shows the pattern close up is true to it. It's not as purple as the pictures show.
But yeah, I see your point. I've been leaning more towards Isles the last few weeks, too.
We have some blankets in MacDonald print, and my dad's kilt is similar (but without white) and it doesn't blend too bad from distance. I'm just thinking it might be a bit green for the Isles, ya know? Gatta get green flashes, too.
Example of dad's tartan (on graduating me, who doesn't know how to wear a kilt properly yet):

Little boys used to wear dresses, and then get pants. Pants were a man's thing, a working garment.
They were worn in the cold, by hunters, by warriors
People wanted to wear hose instead, and sometimes it didn't cover the crotch, which is what gave us codpieces.
It looks like trousers were always what poor dudes wore.
You would think they would, seeing as how they're used so often in the movies.
the last one is hilarious
Whether it's part of a rennaissance fair type deal or whatever. Just once.

Specifically, I'm MacDonald of the Isles, but I don't like the look of it as much as MacDonald of Clanranald, which I think would be more wearable, personally.
Should I go with the one I like more, or the one that is more accurate to my roots? I mean, they're both MacDonald...

that is all.
