Oh yeah, the boobs didn't bother me at all. It's a fucking hack and slash swords and sorcery game. Chain-mail bikinis are the norm. It's stupid, but vanillaware hardly invented it.

I was mostly "meh" to " 'scool" during Sony's presentation. Then at the very end I saw about 3 seconds of this game, immediately recognized Vanillaware when I saw it, and now secretly want a Vita.

The art style is ridiculous but I still like it. At least you know that they enjoyed making it.

Yeah, it's not the sort of want where I'll be beating down the door of Gamestop trying to get one at launch, but I unfortunately will be much more likely to go in dick first if I happen to see one in a store on a payday.

The Amazons face is not meant for that body.

Also the Sorceress is clearly making herself look like that. If I was an all powerful magus I'd do it to.

Hopefully this gets a port to something I plan to own.

I wouldn't, but I have a beard. Boobs and beards do not mix well.

I am going to buy this when it comes out. Vanillaware's game just look to pretty not to have them. Being also helps a lot.

As for the whole art thing - I'm wondering how many women are getting offended over it, rather than guys trying to 'fight the good fight'. If my fiancee saw that art, she'd be laughing, not offended.

This is pure unmitigated bullshit. The whole "you can't dislike it if you're not a women" rejoinder is the hallmark argument of someone with absolutely no backup for his position.

This art doesn't come close to being offensive to women, it's way beyond that. It's just straight up gross. Those body shapes literally cannot possibly exist at all.

Same thing with this crap. The constant, purile whine to "get over it" combined with multiple insults. Great, it doesn't bother you. It bothers me. How about you deal with that instead since you think you're so fucking good at it?

Given the animated style, and that this is a fantasy world setting, I see absolutely nothing wrong with the character designs. Hyper-masculine Dwarf and Fighter and Thunderthigh Amazon/Balloonboob Sorceress are nothing if not staples in this genre.

You've ALL seen this before if you've seen any screenshots of characters from DoA or Soul Calibur 4. This isn't new, and this isn't the last time you'll see this sort of thing. I also expect most "cute" Japanese games to always include magical girls with the biggest brightest eyes, and teeny tiny dresses with omgpantyshots. It's pretty much a standard these days, and until that changes, there's little point in arguing about it.

To go back on topic - I'm completely sold on this game. I've never played a Vanillaware game (really considered Odin Sphere for a while) and I'm all for side-scroller beat-em-ups. The features they're looking to add to the game like level ups and new weapons/skills adds depth to an otherwise boring genre, and I couldn't be happier.

Suddenly I have an interest in this new fangled PSP Vita thing. I need to start looking into threads that I don't think would interest me more often.

That Amazon is pretty scary though, like maybe we have a body part in common that only I should have.

Now I have to struggle with figuring out if this game is worth $249

This game looks awesome. Maybe I do need a PSV. Oh, and those complaining about the art style are effectively complaining about the only thing that is different in the art style from nearly every other game. The fact that the amazon is heavily muscled. The look is clearly supposed to be slightly comic. The dwarfs arms are five times as thick as his neck! The amazon being muscled is the only look element which isn't a perfectly common thing just taken to extremes.

I can't wait to play it. They ride saber tooth tigers!

Honestly the art is like a cross between Boris Vallejo and generic Anime hyper-exaggeration. It's extremely pretty, and while I respect people's opinions and right to be disgusted with the Sorceress' bust size, I still think that it's really an interesting art direction since they are applying the exaggeration to all its characters. They didn't single out just her.

P.S.: I'm very much buying this. I absolutely love brawler type games.

    Agreed.

And as Arkady said, accepting something that's wrong in the industry and not saying anything about it while shrugging and saying that "everyone does it", is pretty stupid.

I don't believe what is in Dragon's Crown is worth complaining about (YET - who knows if there's some horribad stereotyping voice/story that's going to be in the game that will push it over the line), but if you do feel like this is wrong and shouldn't be part of the industry, then say something. Don't just shrug and accept it, or it'll never change.

You guys know that big tits, or overtly sexualized characters in games don't do anything to harm the legitimacy of video games as an art form right?

I mean, there are tons of games you can point to, like Red Dead Redemption or BioShock that have the same effect as a movie or painting or something. No one's going to say "Yeah, those are good, but this game has bewbs all up ins, so your arguement is invalid!"

As someone else has already stated, I am also an "unmitigated tit hound" so I don't know if my opinion counts.

Video games are inevitably going to be considered an art form one day. Cinema wasn't considered art at first, either. Look where it is now!

What's going on here is very clear: hypersexualization of the female form (I'd argue that the males are as well). It's totally okay if you don't like it, I myself was a bit taken aback by it. But it's one silly little game and this guy isn't doing any damage to the industry. Even high art has addressed this issue before.

So you're gonna ignore that no neck space marine is the same thing as giant tits McGee in order to say testicles are sexually arousing ?

    Wow.

While your point is valid and hyper masculine mega machismo is a problem, I don't think it's quite as demeaning/problematic as the degree to which ultra sexualization of women can be. Men are not being sexualized, they are being idealized by men. Women are being sexualized, and idealized as far as the male gaze is concerned.
