I would love to do a bar crawl before/during PAX in the U-district. It's cheaper. Plus A Pizza Mart is my mother ship. Buses run until last call!

I can see reasons for both.

I think Harry Potter is still relevant and people probably still have costumes and stuff for that.

However for next year, it won't be relevant.

However, if it was up to me we'd do GoT this year, because its awesome and I never really was into harry potter.

Sweet the "fascist" thread is back.

I trust in atlus' ability for the crawls since there are what... 6 successful ones now? Plus I know how much work goes into event planing and anybody who does that much work for something gets props. I might be able to actually go to it again! woo :D

I HATE Harry Potter. Awful books. But I loved waving around a wand that made zappy noises and wearing bright yellow. lol

I think that kinda goes in GoT's favor for me. All I know is it has something to do with Medieval stuff? That's always fun.

I'd still like to know how having a thread locked that is causing actual confusion is a negative reaction.

Because locking a thread is not the solution, as is obvious at this point.
Again I ask, why was no one asking for a GoT theme before it was turned into a TV series? Where was the interest then?

This is true. So what? Season 1 on HBO has been a huge success with several seasons to come. It's fresh and new with boundless potential. I don't see how that makes it exempt for discussion as an option either as a new theme for the crawl, or a new crawl in and of itself.

You continue to overlook what I thought was a very obvious point:

This thread is/was causing confusion. This is why it was locked. Not because a bad man is hating on Game of Thrones.

Discussion is open every single year after the bar crawl ends. I respond to each and every comment made individually. Where in the OP is it made clear that you are trying to change themes right now for this year? And if your true intent was to discuss next year's crawl why is it so critical that this discussion happens right here, right now when we're still getting this year's crawl ready? And if this is truly for next year why are you urging people to take a "personality test" or to pick a house therefore insinuating that they are signing up for a group right here and now?

Agreed! As I've said already several times, the crawls thus far have been great! I have no issue with how it's organized other than suggesting more groups, which they're already doing.

Should probably just keep this idea on the back burner for now.

GoT popularity is heating up and Harry Potter is going to be done after this year anyway. Let it go out with a bang.

Right. It was locked because the theme will never be GoT. Not because of posts like these:

I think the edits in the OP have probably clarified the thread's intentions, however this is something I think bears mentioning.

The TWDT/Pokecrawl are Atlus' events. These are not done by the community at large or Penny Arcade. He and other fine local PAXers put in untold hours of their personal time, effort, and most likely money to ensure that all of us that are interested in going out and getting pissed with 500 wizards/squirtles/pokewhatevers can do so.

He takes all kinds of input after the events and tries to make our free (except for a small donation and your own drinks) opening night extravaganza even better 6 months later. In the end, the event is still his (and his cadre of awesome helpers) to plan and execute.

If people want a parallel event, great! The more drunk PAXers the better I'm sure. We're all here for a good time. You can even put together the event and do it however you want to!

If people want to give suggestions about the existing TWDT/Pokecrawl, I'm sure that's cool with Atlus given everything said in the thread/past TWDT's. There's just a time and a place... Which is now clearly established.

Ultimately, I'm just trying to point out the effort that goes into this event, and how this thread might have been construed a bit like a total stranger creating a cookie brigade thread where the possibility of carrots being handed out is the topic of the OP, when that person has never been involved in the cookie brigade in the past..

I'm sure no harm was meant, especially since the OP has been edited.

I'm probably nit picking here but why, if I may be so bold as to ask, would the theme /never/ be GoT? I'm just curious. I mean I don't have a prefrence either way as I've never bothered with the pub crawls myself but that statemnet just strikes me as oddly defensive and close minded. To say that something will never be a possibility, when quite frankly it has every right to be an option as much as anything else. Speak not of whether previous pub crawls were sucessful or how much work and effort X person puts into Y project or whether this is even the time for this discussion. If somebody wants to do an alt themed pub crawl, who are we to stand in his way?

Last I checked we were a community, not an aristocracy.

    Just my $0.02.

~Edit: Okay, Surly totally beat me to it, and said it better too. Ignore me. <3

    Can I suggest something?

Atlus, Accalon, you're both being silly geese. Stop it. After reading the OP and the whole thread, there is NO confusion about this versus TWDT. Stepping on feet was in no way the intent and this isn't a silly goosing war.

Now here's what I clearly take from this thread:
-Atlus doesn't like suggestions or Game of Thrones.
-Accalon didn't realize a PM may have been a better idea before posting.
-There was never any mention in the OP about how little or how much effort goes into planning this. It's not about how hard anyone's worked and there is no insult to insinuate.
-Seriously Atlus, all you had to say was "This is a neat idea, but planning for 2011 is already complete. Let's look at next year."
-The word "Suggestion" in the thread title should really not be confusing.
-Atlus and Accalon should sort their differences over a shared pitcher. I'll buy.
-People are taking this WAY too personally.
-I've never played any Pokemon game nor watched the TV show, but I still would have gone on the drinking tour had I gone to PAX East. I wouldn't care if the theme was BeyBlade and we all had to Let 'Em Rip before we could drink, I'd still participate.
-EVERYONE. EVERYONE NEEDS TO THINK BEFORE THEY POST.
-Whether I dress as a Targaryen, Slytherin or handicapable turtle, I'M STILL THIRSTY.

    SUGGESTIONS FOR 2011
Chill out. Keep doing what you do, because it's awesome. Take the suggestions or don't, but don't open a wound and pour salt in it.
Have a great time. It's a great theme and a lot of great people having a lot of great drinks.
Consider a new theme for next year as Harry Potter is coming to an end. Books are still pop culture, and the GoT books have been around for almost as long as HP.

    SUGGESTIONS FOR GoT 2012
If you're going to make major changes such as theme and/or number of houses, start planning now (with this thread?!).
Find somewhere that serves mead, or at the very least cider.
Start thinking about specialty shots and look for some bars that would work well for challenges. More allegiances means more bars.
The idea of two different bar crawls is not a bad one if things can't get resolved. It can still be called an 'annual bar crawl,' unless that gets trademarked sometime in the next year.
MAYBE, Just maybe, we save the GoT crawl for an Anti-PAX East bar crawl for us PNW locals who can't make it to Boston.

    PAX is coming. Still thirsty.

    * I am exceptionally glad to hear there is going to be a Triwizard. Cawcaw.

    * Game of Thrones is damned fantastic and the thought of houses battling for drunken supremacy makes me consider how and when I will betray those who have come to trust me.

    Theoretically,

    * The coordinators of whatever crawls devised could agree on which group goes to what bar at what time.

    * Guests would be split into smaller, more manageable groups, creating a richer selection of themes to drink to and donate for.

    However,

    * Multiple simultaneous pub crawls sounds exceptionally tricky.

    * Moving 1000+ drunk people in multiple groups, by nightfall, with minimal injury and maximum consumption is tough when one group is in command.

    * Doing so with two or more separate groups is tougher still.

    Alternatively,

    * Pub crawls could be scheduled for different times, or even different days.

    More Alternatively Still,

    * Potential coordinators could agree on one event per year.

    Finally,

    * Everything is going to be fine. Top men are working on it now.
