*MMA XV: Dang-a da dang-a da dang*
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNfYDKST95Y
This thread is for the discussion of all things MMA related. Wanna talk about different martial arts styles and their comparative usefulness? Go ahead. Want to talk about the latest event you went to or saw on TV? Please do. Are you involved in fighting, whether it be in a cage, ring or at a competition of some sort? Tell us about it! We want pictures, videos, stories or anything else related to MMA that sparks (*drumroll*) debate and/or discourse.
Please be aware that when fights are in progress, this thread will be
full of spoilers and things that you probably don't want to read unless you're watching the fight live along with the rest of us. I promise that I will never update the thread title to reflect any results until, at earliest, the following Tuesday after an event. Anything you see in the thread before then is at your own discretion. :P
I'd like to thank doug_grammar, adytum, MetalJared, B:L and anyone else who's made an MMA thread before. At this point, we've all used and re-used each other's ideas for our own particular OP, whether it be for how sections are separated out or how organizations and champions are listed. So credit is due to anyone who's used their time to keep this thing updated and looking sweet. I LOVE ALL OF YOU HAVE MY CHILDREN.
...ahem. Sorry.
*Major Organizations*
The UFC is the biggest MMA organization on the planet and they (arguably) have the best fighters in their respective weight classes. They have shows on Pay Per View, Spike, Versus, Facebook and Ion (even though no one knows what the fuck Ion even is). They rule the MMA world with an iron, Dana White shaped fist and they plan on taking over the world and making MMA bigger than football, soccer, guns and cigarettes.
Their parent company if Zuffa, which recently absorbed WEC into the UFC and then bought the only organization that was even close to matching them, Strikeforce. It's a good time to be a Zuffa employee.

Strikeforce is the second largest MMA organization in the world. While they've never been as well organized or as powerful as the UFC, they do have a great stable of fighters and they've put on some excellent shows. Their heavyweight champion is the first man in combat sports history to hold world titles in both MMA and K-1, which is a pure kickboxing event. Pretty impressive stuff.
Strikeforce was acquired by Zuffa on March 12, 2011. While the company line regarding Strikeforce is that everything will be "business as usual", it's generally accepted that, like the WEC before them, they will eventually be absorbed by the UFC when the time is right. We'll see how things go.

Bellator is an up and comer in the MMA scene. They do things a little differently than the big boys, running in seasons and doing a lot of their matches tournament style to decide either their champions or who the current champions will face. It's different, it's interesting and since they were picked up by MTV2 for their 4th season, they've been having some solid ratings.
Let's hope that they can become a viable alternative to the juggernaut that is the UFC/Strikeforce duo. Competition is never bad and Bellator has plenty of great fighters on their roster. Cheers to the little guy!

*PAFC!*
The Penny Arcade Fight Club is the closest we get to taken all of our hidden (sexual) frustrations out on each other. It's a tournament style slobber knocker full of fun run by adytum, who is totally awesome.
Go to
MMA Playground, sign up and then get with Adytum to be part of our league and our tournaments. Our past champions include facetious, Spectrum (2x) and Inquisitor (2x). Can you join them in the PAFC Hall of Champions?
Season 5 of the PAFC concluded on July 2nd with Inquisitor winning his second title in a row. Congrats to the now two time champion! Pay attention to the thread to find out when Season 6 will start up.
I'm always up for constructive criticism about the OP. I don't have any kind of Photoshop skills or any of that fun stuff, so I'm pretty much limited to text unless you want to send me something to put in here. Feel free to post in the thread or PM if there's something you don't like or think needs to be changed. I browse the forums at least once a day, so I'm always up for a chat.
Happy MMA-ing!
PAFC Top 10 Finisher in Seasons 1 and 3. 2nd in Seasons 4 and 5. Final 4 in Season 6.

Edit: Fuck yes, still in this! There is no way Mitrione doesn't finish this in round 2.
C'mon Mitrione
Edit- terrible double leg.
Then I can't pull out the PAFC stuff, smartypants.
Morecraft looks horrible.
edit- ko'd
Poop.
I wonder if they'll move him up in competition level soon. I mean, he gassed pretty easily and he probably has a shit ground game, but against someone like Carwin he could probably hold his own.
they have an event on july 16
Not really. There's no reason to wait. Starting a new thread right before the official card seemed appropriate.
Also, what Tum said.
Also, WHY DOES IT FUCKING MATTER CALM DOWN AND ENJOY THE FIGHTS.
@dlinfiniti: If you want to write up a little summary for Dream and list their champions, you can PM them to me and I'll be glad to add them. As it is, I don't personally follow them because I don't have HD Net and I don't think the majority of the thread does, which is why I've never officially kept track of them (and I don't think anyone else has, either).
But like I said, I'll list them if you want to send me the info.

Yeah it's almost like they are fight promoters and their business is to make fights seem interesting. Weird.

It's his thing.
He's a robot.
Edit: Since Chilly didn't 100% this pick, I still have a chance. Gonna all come down to the last fight.
That is very odd. I'm looking at the original word document that I pulled over for the OP and it has the info right.
I'm...confused. O_o
Your OP is rigged.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Turns out the info was in there, but I left out one quotation mark and it somehow made Lombard the LHW champ. Strange.
EDIT: Not feeling good about my Doomsday pick.
He almost got OMOPLATA'D that's how shit his gameplan is.
You've probably seen it, but it's a fun little video.
I don't like winning by decision, but I got kids to feed.
Howard is only 5' 7''...he should work on his ground game and head to lightweight. He could drop a little bit of his muscle mass and still be one of the bigger guys in the division.
EDIT: Howard lost, not surprising. Go work your ground game and cardio in a smaller organization and come back in a year and half.
Whoever you are
This the opportunity of a lifetime
Don't mess it up
