A lot of it seems to be people against fog and bullet tracers. Personally I don't have any strong feelings about these subjects, but I guess I might just not be in the CS mindset.

Hello old thread. Bumping this because I recently discovered that Valve is doing the same thing they did for Dota 2 and offering a chance at a key for taking a survey thing. This was apparently announced way back in February, but I completely missed it. Those invited also get an extra key to give a friend.

    http://blog.counter-strike.net/index.php/2012/02/survey/

Figured others might want to know.

    That survey is ridiculous.

How would you estimate your skill? - I'm only mid+, so I'd say 1/5, but some pub-hero is gonna come in and answer 5/5.

How many kills per death do you usually get? - Am I playing pub / mix / proper game?

"Is the AK better value for money than the M4?" - Definitely.

"Is the AWP better value for money than the AK?" ... In what situation? How many AWPS on the team? What map? How good are you with an AWP and an AK?
There are no wrong answers to the survey questions.

this happens with absolutely every sequel though.

Pro games for not pro people who think they are pro because they play CS yo.

It just seems a bit silly to ask questions with drop down menu options, but the answers are entirely subjective.

Weee I got an invite yay.

This is a nice antidote to having my hard drive die and needing to reinstall everything.

Can someone explain how the hostage gamemode works?
Why don't the terrorists just shoot them? Then the CT can't get them and win.

I think there is a massive penalty for the terrorists if they do that before a CT has actually tried to rescue them.

Hopefully it's more than just losing a few Bison Bucks now. There was really nothing stopping the Ts from doing that in the past, especially if they already had a cash/equipment lead.

It was definitely a strategy for the T's to shoot the hostages at the last minute if they didn't have a sight on the CT leading them away. Sacrifice yourself for the team, and all that. Hostages were much easier to kill as AI than a CT with a human controlling it.

I'm so conflicted on getting an invite. Part of me really wants one, while the other part of me has so much work to do and knows that if I get an invite, the work will go right out the window.

    I hate being an adult.

this games pretty average. a well timed frag used to potentially kill multiple dudes, now they just tickle folks. molotovs are kinda gimmicky. the deagle feels like it has a lot less recoil.

Game is "aight." The clowns playing at the moment isnt worth it for the engine though. Might as well play source until more people are playing.

    yeah

    also decoy grenades are dumb

Frag grenades do seem to be significantly less useful now. Not sure how I feel about that yet. The Molotovs and incendiary grenades may seem gimmicky at first. But you can quickly use them to close off a route for the other team. Or to even buy yourself time to run away from a fight you definitely cannot win. Not sure I like the model for the M4 at the moment. It looks strange while equipped. It looks too short or something, compared to the source version at least.
I can't see decoy grenades being all that useful however.

CS_Militia is one of my favorite maps. When I was on the Terrorist team, I would always do a global broadcast along the lines of "For every comrade I see die, I shall execute one hostage!"

Good times, man. I also almost failed Chemistry in 10th grade because I had this series of stick figure comics I would draw instead of paying attention in class. It was about a SEAL Team Six guy VS a Leet Krew guy on Militia. The T would cheat and buy a giant Japanese mech from the store, or the CT would buy the car keys and bust through the garage door in the SUV and splat the T.

    ... Now I wanna play Counter-Strike.

Load up the beta for the first time, buy dual pistols, sneak up on a guy and unload half a clip from each into his back, he wheels around and fires one pistol shot into my face killing me, still has over half health. Oh Counter Strike you know just how to hurt me. Then again that's just online FPS games in general. :D

That sounds like par for the course with the dualies though.

Is there a particular Cthulhuian ritual to perform to have a chance at getting a beta key, or is it completely random and you just have to have a Steam account?

Step one is to sign up. After that, it's probably fairly random.

Welcome to Counterstrike! That's basically how I felt when I first started playing, you just have to stick with it. It'll pay massive dividends in other games if you do.

The new way the guns handle is definitely taking some getting used to. I like it, but yeah, muscle memory is a bitch. At least they don't do weird crap like how the AK could get a point blank headshot if you were aiming at someone's feet due to the god awful huge spread. I'm not too thrilled with some of the new guns though. The sawed off is...ew...and I'm not sure why they added another MG to the mix, but whatever. It's not like we're forced to buy those guns.
The new maps almost feel like they belong in an arena shooter instead of CS, not that I'm complaining, I think they're really good. That said, I'd like to play both of those gun game maps in something like Quake 3.

EDIT: I laughed my fucking ass off when I saw that the M4's reload animation had changed since PAX Prime 2011. I guess my smartass remark to the devs about "M4's not working that way" got passed on. :D

    Is this game out now?

Edit : Nevermind that newbnut of a question. So, this is going to be all about how the PC will show dominance over Console FPS players?

Oh, really? I couldn't find that on their blog site. That's too bad, although, it makes sense considering how unequal the player base would have been.

That wasn't the reason why they canned it, it's because they can't push patches as fast on PS3 as they can on Steam.

BTW I would absolutely love to be part of this BETA. I'm not sure how long I'll have to wait for a key? I'm assuming I've signed up a little late in the process. If anyone has extra's and wouldn't mind passing along the love. Steam ID - thesliver911

It looks like the Dev's are prepared to stick it out until they've created something amazing. That's hopeful!

Aww, that's a shame. Maybe they'll patch it in once they've gotten past the initial launch blues and don't need to push patches on a frequent basis.

How does the beta key handouts actually work? Do you receive it somewhere within Steam? Or does it come a-la-email
