Note that the $30 key is not the limited edition. They do have the limited for like $41.

That is awesome. Isn't Rush limited to just 32 players? It would suck to not be able to play alternating map types.

Flags are on subway trains, rotates every 4 minutes.

to take flags, you and your buddies would hang out at a stop until a train full of defenders rolled up.

64 player clusterfuck down in the subway sounds fun?
I have a theory that it might include the "overworld" part above the subway (with added details) or something or even crazier, be a completely different area like it is only set around the financial district area, the park and subway being excluded out of the map.

....That would be fucking awesome, people fighting onboard the subway trains, others rolling up alongside them in jeeps to provide heavy support.

Battlefield 2 also had 16, 32, and 64 player versions of maps, and they were often quite different. I imagine Operation Metro is either going to have more open tunnels or not much going on underground (like, it'll be an alternate way of approaching an area rather than the entire part you're fighting over).

  • SarksusSarksus ATTACK AND DETHRONE GODRegistered User regular
What was the max player count in the alpha? If it was just 32 then you shouldn't have been playing on the full map, because BF3 maps do expand and contract.

It was 32 player Rush on Metro.

I heard there's a perk you need to take in order to be able to spawn on your squad. Is that true? Are they going to make people go lone wolf all the time so that there's no need to mess withe their 1337 loadout kit?

I have not heard about this perk AT ALL.

    No such perk talked about.
In the alpha, you could spawn on the squadleader who in turn could spawn on anyone.
In the beta, you can spawn on anyone.

I think they are testing out what style to go with.

hes speaks truth.... it is a very hotly debated topic at DICE hq (from interview)... what we get in beta for spawning may not be final either....

I personally liked being able to spawn on any squad member in BC2. The "oh shit don't die" moments when you were behind enemy lines and the only one left alive, were some of my favorites.

  • SurikoSuriko AustraliaRegistered User regular
I hated it. One guy gets past your frontline, and suddenly you're shooting rabbits as people miraculously spring forth if you miss killing even one.

Only if you suck. This is why my favorite loadout is AR, 40mm Shotgun, Grenade Belt and Mag Ammo. You can exterminate entire squads in seconds.

But you lose out on the "oh shit protect the squad leader" and "oh even more shit revive the squad leader" moments, which isn't a fair trade I think when you factor in the negatives with squad spawning (too easy to spawn on any squad member so your "oh shit" moments are lessened, too hard to wipe out squads so the battle has less of a frontline and is more a matter of roving firefights, too little differentiation in gameplay between the leader and the members).

  • ZzuluZzulu Registered User regular
I like roving firefights because if a frontline is established in a battlefield game it means half of the players on the server go sniper and start camping eachother for 30min until the map runs its course and the other half starts spamming grenades endlessly

A minigame of VIP in the middle of battlefield sounds pretty boring. Especially for the squad leader.

I would give a kidney to see dynamic map size based on players. In BF2 you had to pick the map size and stick with it. I want to be able to start on the 16 player version and as people join the battlefield opens up to the 32 and 64 player versions. And if people start leaving, the map size drops down. There is no reason they can't load the entire 64 player version of the map and just cut off areas in real time.

Someone asked the devs on twitter if that would be in and they said "It's too messy, you could get situations where people leave and log on and the map constantly switches size and flags appear/reappear, people get stranded 'no walking' zones" etc...

Please please don't tell me I have to play for 100 hours to unlock all the options for one class.

I like XP unlock systems, but that's just insane.

Argh, so I've had this preordered for ages only to discover that I'm going to be out of town (read: away from my PC) until December. I think I may cry myself to sleep every night.

  • KeasarKeasar Registered User regular
They cant be serious, 100 hours for ONE kit? I could agree on perhaps 25-30 per kit, but that is just insane.

  • That_GuyThat_Guy I don't wanna be that guy Registered User regular
I really hope that means there is just so much more stuff to unlock. If the unlocks do not come in at about the same rate they did in BC2, I will be disappointed.

  • KlykaKlyka DO you have any SPARE BATTERIES?Registered User regular
Well, don't forget that weapon unlocks are now weapon specific. You don't just unlock "red dot scope" you unlock "red dot scope for 'insert weapon here'". The rate at which you unlock new weapons and gadgets for a class isn't bad at all, it's just that weapon customization unlocks will take time if you want ALL of them for ALL weapons.

I am probably oversimplifying things here, but I don't see what is so hard about it. If the server gets half way to the next size, it jumps up. Put a 5 minute cooldown on the jump down and dynamically lock off parts of the map as people die. If, after 5 minutes people are still alive outside the boundaries, slay them. All you have to do is program in wide tolerances to avoid it from jumping up and down too often.

And vehicles could still spawn in their normal locations. The map would just have area restrictions so players could not get to them.

Yeah being stuck with only a few guns/extra because I don't have that much time to put into the game would really suck.

I'm cool with weapon specific unlocks. Pretty sure I've never seen the iron sights of at least half of BC2's weapons because of the red dot/4x global unlocks.

Keeps things fresh and shows me more of the gun. Cool.
