That is awesome. Isn't Rush limited to just 32 players? It would suck to not be able to play alternating map types.
to take flags, you and your buddies would hang out at a stop until a train full of defenders rolled up.

I have a theory that it might include the "overworld" part above the subway (with added details) or something or even crazier, be a completely different area like it is only set around the financial district area, the park and subway being excluded out of the map.
....That would be fucking awesome, people fighting onboard the subway trains, others rolling up alongside them in jeeps to provide heavy support.
I have not heard about this perk AT ALL.
In the alpha, you could spawn on the squadleader who in turn could spawn on anyone.
In the beta, you can spawn on anyone.
I think they are testing out what style to go with.

Only if you suck. This is why my favorite loadout is AR, 40mm Shotgun, Grenade Belt and Mag Ammo. You can exterminate entire squads in seconds.
But you lose out on the "oh shit protect the squad leader" and "oh even more shit revive the squad leader" moments, which isn't a fair trade I think when you factor in the negatives with squad spawning (too easy to spawn on any squad member so your "oh shit" moments are lessened, too hard to wipe out squads so the battle has less of a frontline and is more a matter of roving firefights, too little differentiation in gameplay between the leader and the members).
A minigame of VIP in the middle of battlefield sounds pretty boring. Especially for the squad leader.
If it is anything to go by, maps in Battlefield 2 could be made larger/smaller depending on how many players there were.

I would give a kidney to see dynamic map size based on players. In BF2 you had to pick the map size and stick with it. I want to be able to start on the 16 player version and as people join the battlefield opens up to the 32 and 64 player versions. And if people start leaving, the map size drops down. There is no reason they can't load the entire 64 player version of the map and just cut off areas in real time.
Someone asked the devs on twitter if that would be in and they said "It's too messy, you could get situations where people leave and log on and the map constantly switches size and flags appear/reappear, people get stranded 'no walking' zones" etc...

I am probably oversimplifying things here, but I don't see what is so hard about it. If the server gets half way to the next size, it jumps up. Put a 5 minute cooldown on the jump down and dynamically lock off parts of the map as people die. If, after 5 minutes people are still alive outside the boundaries, slay them. All you have to do is program in wide tolerances to avoid it from jumping up and down too often.
And vehicles could still spawn in their normal locations. The map would just have area restrictions so players could not get to them.

Yeah being stuck with only a few guns/extra because I don't have that much time to put into the game would really suck.
