I'm embarrassed to say I don't think I've heard of Last Resort. Can someone link me to some screens or info?
Last Resort is an awesome dystopian shmup that is very similar to R-Type. Several people who were involved in the making of the original R-Type developed it and later became Aicom, makers of the also R-Type-like shmup Pulstar. Interesting the water splashing details in level two look very similar to those found in the later R-Type Delta. Pulstar is also a great game and surely would be enjoyable by any R-Type fan. You can't launch the pod but the weapons are very similar and the first level is almost a 1:1 reproduction of R-Type II's first level but with some different enemies.
Last Resort uses a smaller amount of colors but is very detailed and well animated for its age. Very difficult also. That second to last boss is absurd if you don't at least have the pod.
If you're good, the hit detection is such that you can sort of position the front of the ship inside the front of the boss and hit the weak point that way, but that's it.

The later levels look much cooler than this. Also each boss has its own theme song. I just have to mention that since not too many games do it anymore but it was pretty standard for a lot of the older shmups.
I really loved the dock/warehouse type level with the water at the beginning. Great music and such.
Neo Geo doesn't have a huge number of shmups but the ones that are good are damn good.
Blazing Star was developed by Yumekobo rather than Aicom. The graphical style is the same though

Wii needs that frisbee game for the Neo Geo. What was it called? Windjammers? I played it at an arcade a long time ago. Good stuff.
Yup, Windjammers from Data East. Definitely the best game ever in the "Flying Power Disc" genre.
This is one of the games that had weird alterations from region to region. There's a Korean woman named B. Yoo that in some regions becomes a British guy named B. Miller.

I've been meaning to pick up Pulstar and Blazing Star when I can find them for cheap. But boy, do they have to tell you every time a power-up item appears in Blazing Star? That gets old real fast.
Sadly there's no option to disable it. Shame since all the other sound effects are just fine and the music is quite good.
Those two games make great companion pieces to each other. Pulstar is a very deliberately paced R-Type style game where memorization and precision piloting is a must. Blazing Star is moderately difficult but doesn't require total mastery to complete because a lot of it can be done on reaction.
Also there's a homebrew game called Last Hope that's pretty damn good. I love the Neo Geo more than life itself but due to the price, I will probably get the just as good Dreamcast port instead. Blowing half a grand on a single game ain't gonna happen.
It's a big old R-Type/Last Resort homage, but so much so that it makes me just want to play R-Type, which I already own on several different formats.
I do VERY much love the look of the game though. It has that super hopeless/dark feel that Last Resort has. Even the cover art is badass for such a small release.

You can get the MVS carts for both for under 50 bucks (per cart), money well spent.
I'd just like to point out that there are STILL no turbographx games on the australian VC. It seems that for now, at least, nintendo only want to release stuff that was previously available. Baffling.

you aren't getting blazing star or pulsar for under 50 bucks. (if its not a boot or shitty condition cart) I just sold a copy of blazing star for 75

Yeah, I don't think I've ever seen them go for very cheap on eBay, even with the strong possibility of bootlegs taken into account.
I want an online version of SNK/Capcom Cradfighter's Clash. Neogeo pocket color, sure....but it was one of the only games I played...and I played it a lot.
I bought a NGP, and that's the only game I have for it. It was still a great purchase. I've put in an insane amount of time on it. The DS version should be out any day now...
(However, I do regret selling my GBC and a bunch of great games to pay for it...)
You could just get a Dreamcast for like $40 and buy Garou and the dozen other great fighters on DC for like $10 a piece...
True; but didn't Garou on the DC have some kind of sound issues or something?
... Even so, it'd still be nice to have Garou on the Wii and not have to go through all the hassle of buying an old DC and trying to find places to get all the old games for it and then have to have multiple consoles set up at the same time... when, ideally, we could just hit "on" on the wiimote, and click on "Mark of the Wolves" and immediately start playing, ideally, without any differences between it and the arcade version.
I don't recall any sound issues in the DC version but i don't listen that closely when i'm playing.
I probably wouldn't buy a lot of the fighters since i have most on PS2/DC already and i don't really care about arcade perfect because i haven't been to a decent arcade for over a year.
Here's hoping if this is true that there's a mix of already ported stuff and non-ported stuff.
Yeah I would say, while owning a cabinet is awesome the best overall way to go would be to get an AES and a converter. High cost at first but that way you'll be able to play pretty much everything.
This is assuming you don't have the budget/resources to get both or get a Supergun built up and so on.

Lat I heard the converters are hard to comeby. Just VC it if it comes out. This increases the Wii's value sigificantly in my eyes as a neogeo setup will be much more expensive then a Wii and neogeo downloads.
AES is just too expensive for the average joe.

The most disappointing thing about the Neo Geo AES was seeing it on an HDTV and watching the comb filter barf all over the screen because it originally only output composite with mono sound.
I would kill someone to play Magical Drop 3 over component cables with (shock) stereo sound.
It sounds like japanese will get the Neo geo on VC in the summer. If they don't release it in the usa (very unlikely) But if they dont, There will be hell to pay! If they do it for japanese Wii, I doubt it would take much to localize it (if it even needed that). Japanese VC and USA VC can't be that diffrent. They would be foolish not to bring both to the USA (neogeo and MSX)

Technically, this would just be customer feedback, but they don't provide an address for that. I sent to their info address asking if they had any plans... I guess that's an information request.

Killing someone is free. An AES costs $250 that I don't have to spare. :P
Also, if the Neo Geo games were being released within a system that allowed you to buy them at $10 a pop, that'd be just super.

I really hope the MSX makes it over here eventually. It's understandable that Japan gets a few more games than us, but a whole system? I'd be really interested in seeing what it has to offer. A lot of people didn't know anything about the TG-16 before the VC, and look how well that turned out. There could be a lot of undiscovered gems on the platform.
This really has me excited over the prospect of more systems being added. We knew it was coming, but I never realized it would come this soon. Who knows, by year's end we could have another couple added to the now-established seven. Aside from Master System, I'd like to see them delve into portables: G&W, GB, GBC, Game Gear, NGP, and NGPC are all possible based on what we have already, and they would allow for much cheaper games. G&W could run for 100 points, GB and GBC for two, etc.
There's a lot of content there, and I'm sure there are systems I can't even think of that would be perfect for the VC.

Nice, I got an MVS.
I'm considering buying a Phantom Cart so I can play AES games.
How is this any different then all the other consoles people already own being on the ol VC? :P
You know you're gonna buy them.
I never asked for this!
why? they are the same thing. if you want to play aes mode, just get a unibios for your mvs
Don't.
Just don't even suggest it.
My disappointment would be too huge if it didn't happen.

Pin differences. AES carts have a different pinout than MVS cartridges.
I could build myself a converter for much cheaper, though.

i know that, what i am saying is:
There are maybe 1-2 games that are AES only. The mvs versions are much cheaper.
This is assuming you don't have the budget/resources to get both or get a Supergun built up and so on.
Which is really quite sad.
Why can't anyone make a baseball game as fun and intense as this? WHY?!
And all of you who on arcades or home consoles: You suck, I want one. :P
