Android app question

Hi everyone, ever have a thing that just bothers the crap out of you and you cant figure out? This is one of those things. Earlier tonight a friend messaged me on my phone,.but it wasnt through text, it was an im of some sort. I accidentally ignored it, and now I'm trying to respond, but have no idea what program it was. The notification icon was a speech bubble like google chat but that dosent list the conversations we've had. Im, not logged in on aol or msn our anything and I know its a stock app because they use to message me on my g1 with this program too. Any ideas/help would be appreciated, this is driving me nuts

I thought about that but I can't seem to find the soo icon to access it.

Just checked the app store, I didn't have google voice. I'm thinking maybe it was done over google talk, but there not on my friends list, but I am on theirs. Does that make any sense?

Chances are if it's a google service the message is also available on your web browser. Try navigating to gmail (for google talk) and google.com/voice (google voice) and see if the message is in either of those.
