a new one was just released. he did it all himself. he hired a production company, he built a website (and the bandwidth to handle a file like this), renting the cameras and all, renting out the venue etc. the ticket sales from the performances paid most of the venue costs and then he made the video file (totally drm free) available for $5.
so it's like a 720p video, no protections, no bullshit, no mailing list... just buy it and download it and it's yours
and $5 go straight to louis ck's paypal account, basically
he posted an update and said it was a gigantic success and he wants to do all his material like this from now on
While Im not a fam of him myself. The message he posted about it thanking his fans really made me happy.
Its alot like Valve offer a good product at a good price without bullshit attached and people will gladly pay for it.

especially since the file is totally drm free, and all profits go directly to him, i am 100% sure he wouldn't mind someone torrenting it and a friend 'buying' it again
