parents got me the Fire, I've heard a lot of complaints about it, and while there are some weird things I don't love about the UI so far, it's got a nice screen and I like the size.

got a roku 2... I dont get what the appeal is though?
It lets you stream lots of internet video to your tv. I just got a roku LT that im using to stream netflix, amazon video, giantbomb and blip tv to my tv so I can watch it on the couch on a larger screen then my monitor. It also streams all sorts of other things like hulu, hbo go, news channels ect. It also has pandora and some other internet radio things as well.
edit: I Also think the roku 2 has support for memory cards and usb sticks so if you have media on your computer you can transfer it over and play it easily through a tv.

So I already modded the Maverick - the cylinder drop mod, and I penny'd up the main spring. With a plastic disc instead of pennies, but you know what I mean.

Greater diversity of streaming sources/format options than a console, but a much more navigable interface out of the box than most media servers.
I guess Microsoft is finally laying at least an infrastructure for better media serving with the new app system, but it's really not there yet. I guess it'd also be kind of useless if you just watch everything on a computer anyway.
