You guys are nice. There's so much mindless negativity around FF these days. People going all NUH UH I NEVER EVEN LIKED FF HAHA SO DUMB
Even if FF13 isn't the greatest game ever that doesn't negate the entire series! Hell 13 isn't even probably a horrible terrible irredeemable game! There's still competent artistry there!
Don't get me wrong, there are a ton of glaring issues with XIII. Like, being underleveled makes the game hellish to play. Just really totally unpleasant. And yeah, most of the dialogue is pretty terrible. And yeah, Hope + Vanille + sometimes Snow are really awful. And yeah, the game was mad-linear.
But it does have some redeeming qualities. It's a gorgeous game with some really neat shit. The Fal'cie hanging out in the Steppe walking around is awesome. The enemy design is actually really neat. The characters aren't awful looking. Sazh, for example, I actually really like. The Paradigm Shift system, while it can be annoying, is actually really handy for defining roles on the fly and not locking someone into one role the entire battle unless they absolutely need to be (i.e. Fang as a Sentinel during all Barthandelus battles).
One thing I can't forgive: how fucking hard it is to get money and upgrade weapons/accessories. Jesus fucking christ that is the longest process.

Yeah that's exactly what I'm saying. People have a lot of feelings about these games and they vary a lot, and yeah it cheeses you off when a new game that took years to make comes out and doesn't live up to your awesome memories of [insert your favorite Final Fantasy]. But none of those games are objectively bad. When you put almost any FF* up against the average video game of their time, even the worst of them still come out above average. The internet just really loves hyperbole.
basically I was making fun of when jrpgs give you a choice to not pursue the main quest and then you take it and then it just locks you into a conversation loop until you accept
the usual example of this is the first dragon quest, where the king asks you to save the princess, and you say no and then he says "BUT THOU MUST"
Seriously though Final Fantasy is not the end-all be-all of JRPGs. Even if that series has gone downhill a bit, we've still had quality games in the genre come out over this gen. From Persona 4 to Xenoblade to Tales of Vesperia to TWEWY to Valkyria Chronicles, among others. The genre has dropped in popularity but quality is still there, you just have to look a little harder to find it.

I'll be all over Xenoblade once it comes out in the real not-Japan.
Man the trip Xenoblade took to come over to America is such a fucking joke. This whole thing. I can't wait to play it but I just don't get why Nintendo had to turn it all into this big drama.
On the upside: probably gonna sell more in March than it would have in October or whatever.
Drew is great of course but I really wish they'd pull Rorie more into GB stuff. He's great in Screened but also really enjoys playing the kind of games most of the GB crew seem to avoid, so it's sometimes refreshing to hear his opinion on stuff.
If Radiant Historia does get that reprint I'll definitely buy a copy. I didn't even hear about it until it was too late.
You know, thinking about it, Atlus in general puts out a lot of good to great games. They are an underappreciated company, I think.
They're probably by far the company you'd most consistently associate with the notion of a cult hit. Atlus fans aren't such an exclusive group. A good fraction of the people I know are all over everything they do.

Atlus recently took to twitter to gauge interest in a Radiant Historia reprint. If you want it, go tweet them or facebook them or something.

P.S. you nerds, happy hour is apparently for everyone today
personally I could do with more Alex Navarro quick looks
Kinda tough considering he's on the other side of the country. And a real shame, too. He reviewed Saints Row 3 and Shadows of the Damned and for the second one they had to do a blind quick look without him.
Will seemed to find out about it when Jeff tweeted about it.
Also, about Ryan telling people to stop coming to the office - they've said people can come, but they have to shoot them an email or tweet firstto ask. It's only right.
Does anyone have that clip of Ryan freaking out? I'm curious now.
And yeah even allowing visits by total random fans with prior warning is way more than most places would allow. If fans tried to get in here (well, I'm sure some people have tried) with or without warning they'd get escorted out pretty fucking fast.

Maybe it was his shadow talking for some reason?
His voice is definitely deeper in the anime.
