The mage cries out as the bolt hits him in the shoulder, but stays on his feet and launches a shot of his own in response as he falls back. (Mage takes 11 damage! [37] Macia takes 9 damage! Macia gains 12 experience)
Enemy Phase
Meanwhile, the surviving swordfighters haul themselves into a defensive position between the wall and the nearest house at the mage's insistence. The cleric rushes over, tending to the more injured of the two. (Swordsman B was healed!) The mage grits his teeth and pops a vulnerary. (Mage was healed!)
Still, progress is being made. Things are actually looking pretty good, as long as that armored guy stays where he is and doesn't-
[7]
The javelin arcs through the air gracefully and catches Macia's wyvern in the ribs, turning an easy retreat into a struggle to stay aloft. (Macia takes 9 damage!) The rider manages to get in a parting shot, but the armored figure doesn't even react as a bolt catches him in the leg, only reaching a hand down to snap it out. He looks up with... well, the helmet makes it hard to gather any expression from the man. But the way he plucks another javelin from the ground and tests the wind give you the impression that he's not taking things very seriously. (Halberdier takes 9 damage! Macia gains 13 experience)
Ally Phase
The myrmidon presses forward, charging at the second swordfighter again- but this time, leaping back at the last second and dodging his opponent's retaliatory strike. (Swordfighter B takes 4 damage!)
Caleb, if that is indeed his name, somehow manages to defy all odds and miss a third time. Amusingly, this shot, while missing its intended target, does strike the broad side of a nearby barn.

Player Phase Begins
EDIT:: Okay, so two questions have popped up:
a) What is a Restore Staff?
b) Are we working with restrictions on what I can steal? For instance, is the Restore Staff or Steel Lance a candidate for the Five Finger Death Punch Discount?
Taking vulneraries is nice because those jerks can't use them when you do, and everyone loves free vulneraries.
Fakeedit: actually, looking up the weapons pigeon has the status curing staff titled "recover". Now he could have just copied my staff name, but that would merely be the sensible explanation. Obviously restore is healing over time
Waiting for shock to move (there is a valid target with no counterattack that will leave Macia in a relatively safe position) before probably healing Macia; Moving + healing immediately would either leave me in javelin range of the knight or way out of range of the rest of the party next turn.
Edit: Terr, I disagree with attacking the halberdier first because his vantage skill will make him counter attack before the attacker attacks; you're looking at yourself, Sardo, and potentially even Macia taking counterattack damage before you finish him off, assuming none of you miss.
The only concern is that, if he attacks Zia, she'll be pretty low on HP, but as long as Swordsman B doesn't ALSO move down and attack her then we should be fine.
Bear in mind you being weighted down by the heavy spear and the hint that the armored guy is unusually fast means you're almost certainly getting doubled (still probably only 6 damage), but if you're at full health and all the green guys don't maneuver in entirely asstarded ways you won't be exposed to being maged in enemy phase and are probably fine.
Might as well do the attack + steal spear combo, if you miss we probably want to focus on swordsmen until next turn. If you hit Orson can heal Macia so she can finish the guy off.
:P
Zia cringes as the Halberdier's javelin cuts into the Wyvern's flesh. She darts behind the armored adversary, grabbing the heavy lance off of his back. "You won't be needing this any longer"
He's all yours, Terrendos!
Allan catches sight of the large man wearing heavy armor nearby. "Ah, fin'ly a challenge!" he shouts cheerfully. "Now then, e'ryone stand aside while Ah finish this!" He stomps over to the man, drawing and brandishing a terrifyingly massive spear. "Let's see 'ow you like this!" Allan pulls back and jabs forward with the great weapon, rending armor and flesh alike asunder.

Going to make a post healing Macia when I get back from lab.
"Well, you sure lasted long." Orson says with a wry grin as he steps to the south and creates more healing light.
Move 1S, heal Macia.
On the other side of the wall, Zia snatches the halberdier's heavy weapon easily, darting out of his range before the armored figure realizes what's happened. (Zia grabs a Steel Lance! Zia gets 13 experience!)
The armored man seems to take this in stride, however. By the time Allan's started moving, he's already tossed the first Javelin- which doesn't do a whole lot, ([40] Allan takes 3 damage!) and Allan's strike pierces the apparently rusted armor with little resistance. But instead of faltering, the armored figure treats this newest setback with the same good cheer he's greeted his earlier misfortunes, wordlessly yanking one of his remaining javelins from the ground at his feet and jamming it straight into Allan's side with a single swift, almost graceful motion. (Halberdier takes 20 damage! [2] Critical Hit! Allan takes 9 damage! Allan gets 13 experience)

still to move: macia, sardo
Doing his best to keep up, Sardo hikes up his robe and stars running after the heavily armored knight and the less armored girl. Once they engage what appears to be the bandit leader in combat, Sardo opens his spellbook and starts to chant.

Sardo is not so unlucky, and the inky maelstrom of a well-placed Flux tears into the lance-wielder, bypassing armor and skin. The halberdier freezes, then collapses backwards with a crash, snapping or knocking over the few javelins that remained. Not a word, not a sigh.
(Halberdier is defeated! Sardo gains 50 experience and LEVELS UP)

@Capfalcon: lucky you, I was going through the thread and noticed from the last page you actually had 70 exp going into this fight. So, this kill should put you at level 2, 20 exp, instead of just 90 exp. Soooooo, you should add 1 point to three stats (or if you prefer, we caaaan go through with the RNG method :P ) and then post the results!
This turn's lasted long enough and this battle's pretty much done, so we're moving on tomorrow night or the day after regardless of whether or not errybody moves.
"Fwah!" Allan gasps, taking a step back as he watches his recently perforated foe suddenly spurt what he'd call 'dark stuff.' He looked around to find the source before settling on the mage behind him. "Hey, what's that? He was mine! Don't need none 'a yer spooky shenanigans to take down an 'onorable warrior like 'im. Go point that stuff at the guy throwin' lightning around like it's goin' outta style!"
After his strike hits home, Sardo stands still for a second, his only movement being to blink in surprise. He quickly turns around, as if looking for someone behind him. Seeing no one near him, Sardo jumps when the knight yells at him. "Huh? Oh, him. Right." Shaking his head to clear it out, he responds, "Well, I'm just making sure he doesn't impale the girl next to you. We're mercenaries. We get paid to take care of problems like these bandits, to be fair, but the first thing to worry about is to make sure we all live to see payday."

Enemy Phase
Finding himself suddenly very alone on the front line, the remaining swordsman drops his blade and throws up his arms. The cleric, breathing a sigh of relief, does likewise. (Swordsman C and Cleric have surrendered!)
The mage, however, bolts for the treeline.
Ally Phase
The other mercenaries seem content to let the mage go, training their weapons on the defeated survivors. The archer leans against a wall, breathing heavily.

Zia chases after the sprinting mage. "We need to stop him!" she thinks to herself. "He'll just send for more reinforcements, and this town will never be safe." She easily catches up to the spellslinger, grabbing her sword, and lunges at the back of his head with the butt of her sword"

In other news that actually justifies me making a post instead of just boredom, the second post has now, finally been updated with all the assorted rules, weapon stats, and (NEW!) a bunch of information about the setting, which I know everyone was just dying for :P
Seeing Zia run after the mage, Sardo yells after her, "Just... let him go. I don't think he'll be coming back. And besides, we've liberated the town. It's time to celebrate!"

"Tha mage's probly a worm, like it if he didn't escape." Orson says quickly while running forward, robes hitched up slightly, briefly holding his staff like an axe before sighing and turning to heal the wounded, a simple nod at the myrmidon as he gets to work.
Noticing the enemy healer for the first time, he gives the other man in cloth a confused look.
Move E8, heal Myrmidon.
Hey, everyone needs a little exp sometime.
Zia's desperate lunge goes wide as the mage jukes left, and there's not enough time for her to recover before he knocks her down with an offhand blast of thunder. Thankfully, it's more of a nasty shock than anything. Without looking back, the hooded figure returns to his sprint and disappears into the treeline. ( [61] Zia takes 5 damage! Zia gains 1 experience)
Prologue: Complete!
Perhaps noticing the sudden quiet, nervous heads start to appear in windows and doorways. No one seems willing to come out, though... until a gargantuan man with a scarred, be-stubbled face carrying a full, clanking sack over one shoulder enters the town through the main gate. He stops suddenly, taking in the corpses and wounded all around with a look of disbelief. "What the ruddy hell happened here?" He asks, with a voice that positively booms.
A smaller, hooded figure peers out from behind the large man. It's hard to make out a face on this one. But just from their relaxed posture and movement, you'd guess they're less concerned about the surrounding destruction.
Well? What the hell did happen here?
Aaaaaand hey, we're out of combat! Bet you guys thought that would never happen. Time to start the rp part of this rp, again. Get cracking!
And another important thing! Remember that whole MVP deal I talked about forever ago? Well, now that we're done with the battle, that applies. Vote for the player who you thought contributed the most- whether it was doing the most damage, saving your bacon, offering the best strategical advice, or just making posts that you found amusing. The winner gets some of that sweet, sweet bonus experience. Don't be an ass and vote for yourself, either :P
Allan stomped over to the surrendered swordsman, swiping at the back of his knees with the butt of his lance to knock him to the ground. He points the sharp end at his neck. "Yeh move, yeh die."
With that done, he calls to the people looking out at him. "Don't worry, s'all clear now! Got these rascals all well handled... 'cept for that'n there." He points to the enemy cleric. "But then, don't think yer really part o' this group, huh?"
When he spots the large man and hears his remark, he chuckles. "Looks like yer town's got a thief problem. Or rather, it used to have a thief problem. Don't worry a bit, we got this business all sorted out for yeh."
Gonna vote Rawk for MVP, I guess. Even though he refused to heal the tank on more than one occasion, which is basically unforgivable.
The cleric flaps his hands back and forth in a panicked affirmation. "Oh, goddess, no. Just a, a, simple pilgrim here. Thanks for the rescue, ha ha ha!" His laugh is, well, it's a little high and squeaky. A little grating, too. He carefully makes his way over to where Zia was knocked down and puts his staff to use. "Oh, that's not so bad. Hold still for a second, would you?"
Meanwhile, the large man frowns. "What, bandits? That..." he turns to the hooded figure at his side. "That's not..." he breaks off mid-sentence as the hooded one shrugs. Sighing, the large man tromps his way over to Allan and extends a leathery palm out for a shake. "Right, manners. Name's Russo. I assume you're the leader of this bunch, what with your fancy armor and all. Suppose we owe you our gratitude." He glances around at the carnage once more. "Mind, uh, elaborating on what went down here?"
Orson notices the hooded figure staring in his direction, one finger tapping a barely-visible chin. Huh.
Oh, yeah. More important stuff!
1. If you want me to start working with your backstory hooks, (or to add some of those) you should probably contact me via PM, IRC, messenger bird, or something like that. There are vague plans in store, but it's probably better that I don't just wing it and screw up your carefully laid plans.
2. Feedback! I want it. Now that you've seen a bit of how things are working, I'd really appreciate some questions, comments, constructive criticism, suggestions, etc. What do you guys like, or dislike? How's the battle system seem so far? I must know. (This applies to any lurkers/potential recruits watching the thread, too.)
Macia watches the Mage scramble into the trees. She sighs. The soldier dismounts, and makes her way toward the two lardasses.
"Leader?" One of her eyebrows shoots up. "Sir, we're not affiliated with each other. Our current arrangement is one of expedience."
