Run for it guys, those fuckers at DARPA decided that the big dog wasn't big enough, so they made one the size of a bull. It's designed to carry 400 lbs of kit for up to 20 miles, and it can go 24 hours without downtime. In comparison, Google tells me puny flesh and blood horses can only handle around 240lbs of load, so this is already making some types of organics obsolete.

They just field tested AlphaDog, the newest incarnation of the LS3 (Legged Squad Support System). Aside from the mentioned size and carry-weight upgrade, this one is also equipped with better sensors, a smarter brain, and a better armored chassis. It can now navigate objects by itself visually instead of trial and error, and it can identify soldiers and follow them wherever they go.

Oh, and it replaced the terrifying sound with a hearty, engine-like rumbling.

Looks like a single RPG at the back would make things horrible for all involved.

The robot is cool, but the LS3 getting kicked was so realistic I felt sorry for it.

    Isn't reality fun?

Make the spider bots capable of building the spider bot maker that builds spider bots.

    Primitive Von Neumann, hello!
Also, wouldn't it at this point be a form of life?

i dunno why we're spoilering but
yes, if you use the definition of living organism as something that can reproduce itself

but viruses fit that description, and we don't consider them to be living, sooo...

No, I believe it would be a form of death.

Even if they can do this?

Yes, in fact that would just make them more effective. "Oh cool! They play mu...*death*"

If I were a genocidal robot maker though? I'd figure out a way to make some sort of a murderous cyborg organism that looks like a newborn. If you want something to be effective at killing it needs to appear as cute and unassuming as possible. ;p

    Case in point:

Then honestly you're not coming out of this looking great either.
