A comic on the rise I would like to recommend is Mike Birbiglia. He does have some stuff on youtube but I would suggest that anyone interested start at the very beginning with his first CD "Two Drink Mike", move on to "My Secret Public Journal", then to his latest "Sleepwalk with Me." His first CD is a bit rough around the edges and his delivery and overall quality steadily improves each CD. He discusses his own personal struggles both growing up and in trying to become a comic while remaining incredibly funny. By the end of his third CD I not only found him inspiring but you almost feel like you know him personally.
i watched a new stand up from norm mcdonald on netflix, it's the bees knees. that man can make anything funny.
as a side note my secret dream is to become a stand up but despite having read a bunch of books/practiced writing, i don't feel funny enough. i think my fear of speaking in front of many people compounds these problems, somewhat.

Yeah, I've never been a fan of "screaming things in a loud high pitched voice comedy" a la Ansari or Charlie Day.
I hadn't watched much Louis CK until his 2009 special came on Netflix. Liked it quite a bit - is his recent Beacon special worth $5?
Billy Connolly should be here.
I'm putting Billy Connolly here:
