It's a pipe dream at this stage is human technological evolution I should say.
Someone isn't going to "accidentally" create conscious A.I. that's just not how the real world works.
I also don't believe in the singularity.
so... it's a pipe dream because we can't do it now?
We'll be dead so yeah. It is a pipe dream
Look at the difference between state of the art supercomputers in 1991 and IBM's Watson in 2011. Now tell me that you have any grasp whatsoever on the leaps and bounds technology will take 20 years from now.

I think, honestly, that making a machine that is proficient with natural language is a more difficult task than making a machine that is conscious (though these tasks are incredibly related).

there is no obvious reason to think that a postsingularity AI will have any goals which humans find appealing
The first AI will be a sorting program designed to categorize funny pictures of cats
It will gain self-awareness and we and the AI will both procrastinate endlessly at work by sending each other pictures of kittens falling off of objects
Nationalism is a potent force - far more potent than unity of the working class, as World War I taught us.
It is what destroyed the USSR, after all.
Also, Stalin motivated people to fight by calling to defend Mother Russia, rather than worker's rights or similar. Patriotism was much more potent a motivator.
But I made jiji scared of my viktor when he was on his main (rumble) while I was top lane

I want to live so far past 100. Basically I don't want to die, ever. my living will is going to say do not disconnect from life support, no matter how terry schiavo-ed I might be. My family can suck it with regards to their inheritance going to potentially and (fruitlessly) extend my life. I don't know that I'd bother with any sort of cryogenic storage.
God, I hope life extension technology makes a revolutionary leap sooner rather than later and that I can afford or steal it.
Excuse me but this video is more scary than DK's robot overlord.
That video made me think of a short scifi story (I think it was in the Mirrorshades anthology) about some autonomous police drone that fought crime deciding to get tougher on crime.
So they had to make new drones to take out the first drones.
And then new drones to take out those drones.

We are heading towards a downturn in humanity. I don't see the same advancement in the next 20 years because humanity has decided to be terrible
People have been saying this same jaded shit forever. Now who is the one being ridiculous and stupid.
yeah, no shit. i think things have been steadily getting better in the world. like, we no longer feed slaves/christians to lions for our amusement. the way war is waged, by the West at least, has steadily moved towards doing as little harm as possible to non-combatants.
The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for
authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place
of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their
households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They
contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties
at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers.

Famous last words!
I would posit that the vast majority of what constitutes consciousness naturally arises when you have a narrative self awareness.
Look at the difference between state of the art supercomputers in 1991 and IBM's Watson in 2011. Now tell me that you have any grasp whatsoever on the leaps and bounds technology will take 20 years from now.
It is a fantastic but vain hope that conscious A.I. will be created in our lifetime.
You could argue that I am wrong, but no, that is exactly what pipe dream means.
Honda's robot been drankin'
Let's just admit the reality here
What has stimulated this?
the moog synth is pretty great
Guess what I had to run into yesterday in normals
CLG
all of them
As limited as it was I had plenty of "bang out a beat in ten minutes while waiting for a plane" with Beatmaker.
There's a new version out that adds stuff that was inexcusably not in the first version, but I haven't yet tried Beatmaker II.
It's all sample based stuff.
street knowledge by the pound

There's no reason to think it wouldn't
Ultimately we're bound by fundamental desires, stipulate those for an AI and it will have no good reason to change them.
did... did you win?
identifying "those" is the nontrivial problem

thx guys
i might check out the moog first.
sampling is my weakest link.
shredding is my strongest link but it got tedious wearing my guitar everywhere with a battery operated mini-amp around my neck.
