You heard right, the highly anticipated game about Chernobyl and the dangers that lurk there is heading out to the factory. It has been awhile, but, at least it came out before DNF.

I know I've really been looking forward to this, and this news is very exciting. The game looks great and looks like it might do revolutionary things with it's promising MP and SP. With a huge environment to explore, and good story to back it up this is gonna be one of my most anticipated games this year. I just hope I can run it, hopefully the System Requirments get released soon.

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6166678.html?action=convert&om_clk=latestnews&tag=latestnews;title;0

That's the Gamespot link to the story.

The release date is now estimated at "March 20th, 2007"

Now, Discuss! Is this great news or has the huge amount of time it has been in development made you not really care about it anymore?

might as well let them battle it out, to find the ultimate champion!
i pre-ordered this when i saw the awesome LE kit that we get in the UK. Is that available in the States yet, or is it still a europe exclusive?
if the reviews say it sucks though, i may well cancel. Although gamespot seem to have nothing but positives to say about it so far, so that's good.

There's a LE kit... I'm intrigued. Also, all I've heard is positive things about this game, I just hope it can live up to the hype.

Apparently, a lot of limited editions of games from Europe don't make it overseas, or at least that's what someone else said in this forum. But I think it may be true, as I haven't heard anything about the limited edition coming to the US. That's why I pre-ordered my copy from the UK.

Anyways, can't wait to play it. The multiplayer beta is incredibly fun, which surprised me. I may actually buy it for the multiplayer now.

I meant the normal, non-LE is only $40.

Europe does miss out on some games, but you guys get cool LEs that we don't get.

It's funny, because I've had S.T.A.L.K.E.R. on pre-order for two or three years now. I placed $5 down on it the same day I pre-ordered Half-Life 2.

And now I'm going to order the CE from Play.com.

I think I'm going to move my $5 to the new Pokemon game. Diamond or Pearl?

it will be out next month, i believe, but yeah, based on the previews i've read, it sounds like it'll at least get close to the hype. My main concern is that my pc won't be able to take it, but if it does get a bad review and really turns out unplayable, then i'll cancel that pre-order in an instant.

You know, everyone saying that they need to upgrade, you might not really.

The game scales very well because of how long it's been in development. They've made upgrades to the technology that their engine uses, but turn all that off and it runs very well on very much not top of the line hardware while still looking pretty good.

this is what i've been thinking. It's been in development for 6 years. Sure they'll have bumped up the technology, but i can't see that it'll be graphically as advanced as a game that's been started more recently, designed for cutting-edge tech. I'm still expecting to have to cut down on a few settings (6800GT and a 2.8ghz Athlon) but i can't see it'll be as bad as a lot of games started more recently.

How much of the original scope did they have to cut for the final game? They had pretty epic plans for it from the beginning.

i guess we'll find out in reviews. It sounds like they've gone a long way to keeping most of the free-roaming play and awesome AI stuff in place. Talk of dynamic day/night cycles, with people from the different factions retreating into camps at night, and singing and chatting around campfires and stuff. And the Gamespot article on the AI in combat sounds pretty awesome, too.

You can run it in DX8 mode, so I imagine it won't be a problem running on most hardware. It also has DX9 mode, which is absolutely gorgeous, too. Also, another post above asked about the scope of the game. Everything they originally talked about is still intact, for the most part. They removed vehicles due to all the anamolies (you'd be driving around and then run into an anamoly), although that's easily modded back in. I'm unsure if they took out the requirement to consume food, but I believe food is still there as well as drinking alcohol and taking medication to reduce radiation levels. I can't wait to get my limited edition copy from the UK!

I hope it scales better then the beta.

The game isn't really GPU intenstive but it kicks the crap out of good CPU's.

Indeed. And the multiplayer is a lot of fun, too; don't you people forget it! I'm excited to hold that metal, limited edition box in my hands. :D All the game needs now is co-op to be modded back in. I propose we band together to make it happen!

This game might be fun to mod, but it also might be a well tuned mess under the hood. Who knows? Some kind of Co-Op Zombie/Nuclear mod for this game would be awesome for sure.
