I don't read xkdc because I was never into maths or found it easy so I don't always get it. But that is okay, I am sure lots of people who are into maths like it.
I don't think it was condescending. It was more like ":( math is cool guys, it's normal to like it, like cooking and playing an instrument and learning languages I'm normal, guys "

I think what rubs people the wrong way about the most recent xkcd is the idea that someone wouldn't just say "I never use algebra in my real life and I forgot it the second I graduated; what a waste of time" to a friend, but angrily and condescendingly shout it at their high school math teacher years later like they were carrying a grudge all that time. He makes a good point, but he's writing a comic, so he tries create a humorous situation, and he just screws it up badly.

randall gives people who are into maths a bad name.

And the people who are mad about it obviously haven't met many math majors.
The better counter-argument is "yeah, well I actually do something with your physics/math (I'm an engineer so I'm somewhere left of the chemist on that chart), so shut up".

Don't engineers laugh at mathematicians behind their back and then shove them
...with surprisingly intricate machines built expressly for the purpose

I also have a degree in pure mathematics so I'm kind of on both sides of the fence.
I guess this means I get to sneer at everybody.

My degree allows me to understand where Randall's attitude comes from.
The modern origin of his attitude lies in the works of Bacon and Descartes, though it has roots as far back as Democritus, and even to Democritus' teacher, Leucippus.
I don't wanna kill anybody. I don't like bullies. I don't care where they're from.
There's webcomics for art people, science people, literature people computer people, math peoples. However there's just a larger percentage of math and computer peoples on the intrawebs, so of course xkcd is going to be top of the list. It was also very funny for a good while. Sorta like how Simpsons was good from seasons 3 through 12. (or 10 depending on your point of view).

All the scientists and engineers that I know are interesting people with a hunger for knowledge
But hey maybe they scrawl little elitist doodles and chuckle at their own wit too
Math is not.
(I went to the Faculty of Mathematics by the way. Screw that shit)

several of my physics teachers have xkcd print outs in their offices
some times they'd bring them to class
The unrelentingly elitist snob ones, or the occasional good ones?
it's just
so fucking condescending and belittling and smug
aaaaagh just want to slap the shit out of that guy
it's not the "science" bit that makes him a pedantic douche
it's the "randall"

Let's go a step further, into hating any children who don't have autism
Is there a shirt advertising my disdain for normal children

tynic did
did you not realize that you have a permanent sneer on your face at all times
Where does that put me on the spectrum?
nerd
LICD smug face is based on a picture the artist saw of Tynic
I would say it's more of a skeptical grimace.
You can beat up nerds with the bat.
i was surprised to read this! it’s so sad that voting takes eight whole hours and you have to choose playing halo 4 or your country.
also halo 4 only exists for november 6, and on november 7 they destroy any unpurchased, unplayed copies
Please stop making me feel dumb. Say something stupid to equal things out
at least I think that's what causes that to happen
