Okay, Moldova must have lost it's collective mind sometime during Soviet control.

It'd just be Runrig every time or Michelle McManus if there's a required level of awful.

Rather that Moldova entry than Jedward.

I think I hate myself but I guess I need to go wikipedia Eurovision to figure out what this insanity is.

Eurovision is pretty bad now that Terry has gone

he used to be the only good bit about the show

subtly mocking everything, except as the night went on he would be more and more blatant about it

After a brief look at the wikipedia entry, and then a look at the videos in the OP again, I am...what's the word...impressed? amazed? concerned? perhaps concerned...that some of these were actually selected by their countries to participate.

Wow. I think I may follow this for the sheer wtf value.

Hey @Wiet, I'm voting for The Netherlands this year. I mean, I'm not saying anything about her costume, but the song is pretty good.

Unlike the Norwegian song which is terrible.

Her song is quite catchy but I can't be seen liking my own country's entry in public.

    WHAT THE FUCK!!!

What have you done?! The unforgivable mistake is letting someone listen to that song.

It's like Rebecca Black + Auto-tune + English as second language grammar + Misunderstanding the entire internet

Now that I think about it, it's truly amazing.

@Syphyre Oh yeah, some entries can be pretty damn cringe-worthy. There's a huge kitch element.

England especially have a tradition of terrible, terrible songs.

I'm from the US, but I almost always track Eurovision on the net, wherever I can find it.

Was first exposed to it, when Nightwish was a finalist in the Finland national voting way back in 2000.

Is this all a huge joke? Like a gigantic in-joke between all the European nations to put this on? Because it seems like over-the-topness is a 120% requirement for this.

    Damn yooou!

@Syphyre when it first came out people used to take it seriously, but these days not all the countries do hence the daft entries. Some are still serious and it is considered a good thing to win, but some countries think its lame and uncool. So its a mixed bag really, but most people watching do not take it seriously though. The UK and Ireland do not take it seriously, but Norway seems to, for example!

I have heard that on the mainland many people take it a lot more seriously than we in the UK do

And if we're honest, the reason we don't take it seriously is because we never win because the rest of Europe hates us.
