Otherwise it does 200% weapon damage and 60% over time for 60 AP, or I could just use Arcane Orb which does 228% runed for 35 AP. That's like twice the damage to cost! On the plus side as someone pointed out in the last thread you can aim it anywhere on the screen to maybe take out guys hiding behind their minions (Fallen Prophets).
It takes a wild rumpus of energy to use, on the downside, but in giant mobs regeneration isn't really a problem.

They took the servers down for scheduled maintenance at 5 am PST. They'll be back up at 6 PST (hopefully).
My Monk is level 31, has beaten Normal difficulty.
I cake walked through Act's 1 and 2, didn't really ever die, didn't really ever have to pot. Act 3 started, and I died I think 6-7 times within the first few minutes. I think this was because I had previously been playing in a group of 4, then went solo, so I was pretty horrifically under leveled for the content. I gained a level, and suddenly wasn't having so much trouble anymore.
Game-play wise, I think the monk has to have some of the least-satisfying animations of any class. Sure, some are cool. Most of your spirit builders rock, but the most effective abilities, I've found, are kind of underwhelming.
Sweeping wind, while cool when you have it at 3 stacks, really gets *lame* looking when its runed. It's definitely the most effective skill I've come across so far though.
Wave of light is awesome when it's a bell, but then you rune it to be way more effective, and the animation disappears...
7 Sided Strike...really underwhelming. I've only used it on bosses, and only then for the temporary invulnerability it grants.
I don't know. I enjoy playing the monk, but it took a while for it to get fun.
My Demon Hunter is level 15.
DH sucks pretty hard until you can start rune-ing things, but by level 12, probably is the most fun class.
Chakram are god damn AWESOME damage ninja stars of doom, plus Vault (with the level 10 passive that gives you 60% movement speed after vaulting), plus Bola's....good lord. Everything dies, nothing can hit you, and you run faster than anything except a D2 sorc with Tele.
My barb is level ~10.
I just have to say that Blizz really nailed the animations of the barb. From level 1, everything just *feels* more satisfying than the monk. Like, every move just radiates pure, unadulterated "HULK SMASH" in a way that makes you wonder why the monk seems so...off?
Plus, Whirlwind. I don't even care about anything else. Just give me whirlwind, so I can whirlwind all the things.
As far as the game itself - did not disappoint. Act 1 and 2 felt a tiny bit repetitive (really? Act 2 is a desert? With a lot of similar mob types?), but I feel like it was almost done as a purposeful thing, just so the absolute ridiculous awesomeness of Acts 3 and 4 stand out as like HOLY CRAP THIS IS FOR REAL GUYS type business.
As for Blacksmith/Jeweler business - my BS is maxed for normal difficulty. So far, I've made myself shoulders on my first character (they were usable long before shoulders were actually dropping), assorted boots/belts, and a bunch of level 8/9/10 gear for my second characters.
Was it worth it? Probably not. I had it capped by the end of Act 2, though, so I just ended up capping the jeweler, and capping my first stash tab, by the time I finished with the monk.

Diablo difficulties are New Game+, not so much "easy medium hard impossible". So even if you could take a level 1 character into Nightmare, the level 31 zombies on the road to New Tristram would eviscerate you instantly and you would not be able to out-damage their life regeneration.
Also godmode, it's pretty easy to whip through the acts if you have some higher levels along with you for the ride, or a full party. I honestly did Act II this morning in like, an hour and a half? I think? And that was me with three equally-leveled characters (around level 20 or so), two other monks and a Demon Hunter.

Exploding palm seems like a waste to me though. When it was a spirit builder in beta, I used it like, nonstop. But it's a slow, single target, low damage ability that tends to get me murdered if I try to cast it on a mob in a pack (which is where the side bonus would be most helpful, I think). It's satisfying when it works, but I haven't really found a use for it yet.
Wave of light, when it's a bell, is god damn awesome. However, when you rune it to do its massive amount of holy damage, you lose the bell (which was why the animation was so sick), and instead, just shoot some blue shit out of you and knock guys back.
Thing is, it is MASSIVELY more useful runed that way. Not only does it give a huge AoE nuke+knock back, it also heals you. Absolutely an awesome ability. But losing the bell part of the animation makes me sad.
7-sided-strike, when used in a pack, the animation just kinda disappears. If you actually have 7+ mobs to hit, you don't ever really see it. Especially in a party. You'll see whirlwind, ground smash from barb. You'll see disintigrate, arcane orb, and basically everything else from a wizard. You'll see Chakrams, multishot, bola shot, and other shit from the DH. But monk? Not too much.
In a party, about the only time people have been like "holy shit that's cool" when I did something was Wave of Light (as a bell). Meanwhile, just about every new ability/animation from other classes has been like "sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet".

The only problem is with certain bosses I don't have enough sustained single target damage, have had to switch up the abilities a bit.
I had a build like that until Disintegrate. Now it is all Disintegrate, all the time.

Well, of course it makes sense in that light. But I was thinking about it more like "Alright, I unlocked Nightmare. Here is this new level one character and he is now facing these tougher level 1 packs of zombies"

I take back what I was saying about wizards not having good arcane power dumps, its probably just that my gear was just lacking in Act 1. I got a crazy rare sword off an early act 2 boss and made some ridiculous smoked spheres from the blacksmith with +44 int and my damage on paper nearly doubled. Now I'm destroying everything with minimal effort.

I'm not high level by any means but I've made a few useful items. It may become less useful later but right now it seems pretty good.
Typically I just pray or make sacrifice to Satan for things I would like (smiting enemies, bottle of rum please?) but I don't think that is going to fly here, for obvious reasons. Quite an annoying dilemma, to be sure.

Me neither. I let a friend borrow my discs and I never got them back. I bought it off the website last year and got into Act 2, but I think I already fucked up my Amazon so I'm kind of annoyed. I want to kiss D3's skill system on the mouth.
