Yeah its hard for me to stay unbiased because it did the same for me. Killed the local scene and my interest in championing a game that wont officially evolve.
On the bright side the £££ I used to spend at GW has bolstered my board game collection

I am personally not enthused with it at all, because the new models just don't appeal to me and it seemed a bit too "40k" styled. Does it play like a Warhammer version of 40k or not? I literally have never met anyone who plays Warhammer who likes it or even plays AoS, so I can't even see a game in progress to know how it works!

The fantasy group in my area mostly switched over to AoS (but I should probably say I mostly play in a GW store, which may explain that) barring the more hardcore, power-gamey types.
AoS is, on measure, not technically a very good game; it has no real balance and an awful lot of hand-waving, but despite it's many flaws I do still find it kinda fun, it let's you run themed armies that actually stand a chance, it plays easily and is simple to understand.
Of course I am more into painting than playing, and I cannot recommend it as a particularly deep and nuanced game in anyway, but on the flip says it plays quite nicely with just a few boxes of stuff.
I played at a GW store as well (just closed; is moving location later this year) and AoS actually really caught on there. Old players picked it up and new people would come in and pick it over 40k. The non-GW stores in my city though... I've heard that all the old-guard players of Fantasy won't even give it a chance.
Personally, I haven't played much of it because I like 40k better but, from what I've played and seen (especially on Miniwargaming), it's been fun and I've had nothing but good experiences.

So, the new AoS lore is at the old Warhammer World was smashed into bits and sucked into the Warp (or vice versa?) then the bits eventually came to rest …elsewhere… and now Sigmar and all the other gods have their own realms made of the bits and anyone who was living there when the world broke and they are now duking it out for more territory by flinging their minions at each other through the stargaterealmgates?
So I didn't want to dig up my 2 year dormant Blood Bowl thread. Stopped by the new GW store near me, I haven't been to one since my old one shut down. I show up just as they are doing sign ups for their Blood Bowl league. Ready the kegs, the Stoutheart Brewers are hitting the pitch again!!

@Ken O I don't know how long you've been out of the loop, but Blood Bowl is coming back - officially (along with Necromunda, BFG, Mordheim). GW's Specialist Games division officially started business ... today? ... I think.
There's pictures of some new prototype models out and about from one of the recent GW events.
I saw those pics. I'm looking forward to new minis. It'll be interesting to see how much support it gets this time around. I was just excited that the weekend I decided to check out the new store (new? I think it's like 6 months old by now) they happened to have sign ups for the game I like the most. I've got to drop my roster off this week.
Blood bowl is certainly on the way but there's very little about how it'll be released. My gut feeling is we'll get an updated set of the old bb i.e. A plastic Orc vs humans and then we'll get the rest of the teams in forge world resin.
After that some seem to be suggesting some form of Epic (Titans only which is how that started back in day).

Rumours doing the rounds is it'll be a big box board game rather than the expandable boardgame of old. Some of the old, really, really reliable rumour guys (harry and.. I can't remember his name) said they had a full big box edition ready for production. Had 4 teams in it - humans, elves, orcs and chaos all stars. The idea was there would be a 'campaign season' where the teams faced off against each other and the winning team faced off against the chaos all stars. It would then have rules for one off games, but no idea if it would cover teams outside of that.
Aeronautica Imperialis appears to be the first rereleased game and is, again, following the big box boardgame approach. Rules for Imperial, Eldar, Orks and Chaos, but no news if it's going to be expandable. Going by the rumours, it seems GW like the idea of one off boardgames rather than expandable tabletop games that require ongoing support.

That would be interesting if they had ever designed a good board game...
I loved Hero Quest when I was a kid, but the game had some glaring flaws (e.g., the wizard is essentially useless), and I dunno how much of the game was GW and how much was MB.
I haven't tried any of their other games (I have Calth but haven't bothered trying it) other than 40k, which is also ass.
Sic transit gloria mundi.

40k isn't all bad, but it's not great. It's also not a board game.
I found Space Hulk to be the opposite of ass. Calth is fun, Execution Force is fun (Eversor suicide is a hoot). I've also heard recent testimony of Hero Quest and hear it's still fun. I haven't played Dreadfleet, though. I heard it was pretty okay.

HeroQuest, Battle Masters, Space Crusade, Advanced HeroQuest, Space Hulk, Blood Bowl, Talisman, Warhammer Quest, Execution Force, Betrayal at Calth - just off the top of my head.
And that's just from the Warhammer era. They made plenty of board games before that.
The problem is they're selling boardgames with full-blown model kits inside. That's dumb. They need another HeroQuest. Something that can compete with X-Wing and sit right there on the shelves at Target and requires no assembly other than punching out cardboard pieces.

But that makes it a toy and GW are clearly in the business of selling collectibles!

They should maybe look at ebay and see what complete copies of HeroQuest go for these days. God help you if you want the lesser-produced expansion sets.

Looks pretty collectible to me.
I am assuming his post is sarcastic, because anyone into model mans games knows Hero Quest is like gold.

@Aegeri I think I was just using the word 'collectible' incorrectly. I was thinking more of something that you buy and it holds or gains value. (I'm so glad I nabbed 2 new copies in 2009 for less than $200 each to supplement my original from 1991.)
Still, a core game system and small, collectible (using the definition GW wants) expansions I think would sell like crazy.
EDIT: Leave it to Mantic to fill the void. Has anyone played Dungeon Saga?

I haven't, but I've been playing the fuck out of Zombicide: Black Plague with friends lately.
GDubbs should do one with Skaven, ala Vermintide. But I guess that would infringe on some copyright or IP something or other.

The moral of the story is GW executives are ignorant about what their company is best known for
I wonder if they're going to make newer/better versions of the Battlefleet Gothic stuff or if they're just going to redo the old plastic models
I hope they don't make them more expensive, relative low cost is one of the reasons I really liked it even though I started getting BFG stuff when they were ramping it down.
Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if Labor had not first existed. Labor is superior to capital, and deserves much the higher consideration. - Lincoln
I will admit that GW has made games that have been fun (HeroQuest, at least); but they haven't made a game I would consider good. Their games tend to be overly random, poorly written, totally unbalanced, easily abusable, full of errors, needlessly elaborate, too time-consuming and too expensive.
But sometimes fun.
Although in these cases, I suspect it is purely accidental. A broken clock is right twice a day.
That said, their models are usually good, and I do play 40k (it's the miniatures game around here).

GW taking the wrong lesson from Betrayal at Calth selling like hotcakes? Why I never.
Betrayal at Calt, Space Hulk, Execution Force, Hero Quest.
All terrible, terrible games right?
They have certainly been terrible at keeping them in print.
Hero Quest is, sadly, never coming back.
