Vayne looks at the performers with cold eyes. "Why don't you start your show early? Our target wouldn't make a move on you in such an open space." A bald-faced lie, but Waters doubted Faust had much interest in the stars.

Vana places her sheathed Parrying Dagger on the armory's counter, the oiled leather belt creaking. "Got something for your backstock," she says to the Quartermaster's assistant, flipping down her Aton credit slip. "Looking for a Trident Dagger to replace it. Something unobtrusive if you got it, thanks."
She patiently leans on the counter while the attendant goes looking through the backroom for something fitting her specifications, straightening when he returns with a grin and a new dagger and sheath.
Vana takes a few minutes to get reacquainted with the unusual weapon, accustoming herself to the weightier heft compared to her previous dagger and getting familiar with the position of the quillons and the small, knob-shaped trigger on the hilt.
Cautiously holding the blade away from herself, she pushes the knob forward with a thumb, and is immediately rewarded with a sharp snap as the separate edges of the blade fan outward into a trident formation.
"Very nice," she says, using her fingers to lock the spring-loaded arms back alongside the main blade with a click. "I'll take it."
A few minutes later and she's signed her receipt, smoothly deflected a probing question from the assistant about the reason behind Aton footing her bill, and is back out on the street with her new weapon snugly strapped to her left leg.

The Sun is setting on Atlus. The cities activity has come to a halt as all gather at the Dukes Fortress.
You stand at the center of the commotion, along with your 50 surviving classmates. Today is your graduation day. By the Dukes orders your five years of training will be validated, and you will stand among the Marshals.
The crowd goes silent as the ceremony commences. With a groan the castle gates open, revealing a lone elderly man. The Duke slowly walks towards his pedestal, and with a broken voice he begins his speech.
“The time has come once again for the Marshalls to expand their ranks. These brave men and women have dedicated there lives to defending the Tomes will, as I have given my life to enforcing it.” An explosion of light erupts from the gate behind him, as the Tome floats into a view. The faded book floats towards the pedestal, placing itself before the Duke.
The Duke pauses, and wipes a layer of dust off the Tome. “Just as those before you there is on last trail before you, the Walk of the Marshall. Only those who have completed the trail know of its secret, those who have failed have already taken the truth to their grave. You have only one objective. Survive. “
Marshall Officers begin walking among you, and start handing out equipment. The Duke reaches out, placing his hands on the Tome. The world around you begins to glow as beams of light leap from the book. “May the gods be with you all.” The world around you has turned white, a sense of weightlessness fills your body, and your mind goes dark.
You awaken surrounded by trees. The crowds of the city are gone, with only a few of your classmates in sight. As your mind clears a realization hits you. The Tome has dropped you off in the Forest beyond the wall. Your final test has begun.

Darryn wakes up slowly and groans silently. After a short while he turns and talks to the other classmates nearby.
"You guys want to stick together for awhile? Strength in numbers and all that, you know. I always thought that a Marshal is only as strong as the Marshal next to him, and I am a fine shot with this rifle."
"Anyway, I reckon that's the best way to survive. I'll be looking for the way back to the city if any of you wants to come along."
Neat! Out of curiosity, what could I upgrade my [Cane] or my [Slick Clothes] to?
[Sword Cane] - Your melee attacks are more likely to cause lethal wounds.
[Gentleman's Cane] - Persuasion-related actions are easier as long your targets can see the cane.
[Fancy Clothes] - All social actions are easier when dealing with characters of middle-class or lower.
[Padded Clothes] - Your defense against physical attacks is increased.
[Concealing Clothes] - Stealthy actions are easier.
[Priest's Staff] - Healing spells delivered through the staff have a larger critical hit range.
[Inquisitor's Staff] - Offensive spells delivered through the staff have a chance of applying conditions.
[Aura Staff] - When you cast a buffing or debuffing spell, you may target the staff. If you do, the staff creates a field of the spell's effect centered on itself. The field moves with the staff.
[Clockwork Staff] - Whenever a physical attack succeeds against you, there is a small chance the staff will dilate time, allowing you to avoid the attack.
[Spell-Matrix Staff] - All spells cast by allies that match the basic type of spell you last cast (i.e. direct attack, buffing, debuffing, healing, summoning) are more likely to succeed.

Vayne leads the group through the halls and finds the panel to the secret elevator. Fortunately, not only does this stadium feature man-sized grates, there's also no security measures to prevent anyone from opening the panel in the wall. A fuckin' stray dog could get in here. You'd think the hypercompetent Faust would have like, a thumbprint scanner, or some kind of voice-recognition software, or something, but evidently not! You just pull this fire alarm and the wall slides away. So I mean, on top of everything else it's a safety violation. Just real sloppy work.
The elevator descends, and opens into the secret storehouse. Faust is standing here, hand on the time battery which has been rigged with a mess of wires and a small control panel. He gives the group a finger-gun.
"Remember, 9:12!" Him and the battery glow dark red and sparks of electricity arc across the room...

[Inquisitor's Staff] - Offensive spells delivered through the staff have a chance of applying conditions.
[Summoner's Ocarina] - Songs that summon objects or create fields are easier (i.e. Summon Monster or Darkness).
[Charmer's Bansuri] - Mind-effecting songs are easier.
[Soldier's Piccolo] - Buffing songs are easier.
[Aura Staff] - When you cast a buffing or debuffing spell, you may target the staff. If you do, the staff creates a field of the spell's effect centered on itself. The field moves with the staff.
