[PATV] Tuesday, August 30, 2011 - Extra Credits Season 2, Ep. 24: Sharing Our Medium
Right now I'm trying to get a really close long time friend into gaming. I got her a gamecube and a few staple nintendo games for her birthday. I hope it was the right choice. xP
if you're looking for an ideal game to introduce non-gamers to gaming, try Bastion.
it's a top notch game in and of itself, with a lot of very classic game-standards of leveling and equipment and items distilled down to their essentials, which doesn't demand too much finnicky or specific action from the player.
plus, it's aesthetically stunning, has an excellent and engrossing musical score, a mysterious story with one of the best hooks i've ever come across, simple controls, and a camera that's taken care of for you. at the very least, one of those elements is bound to grab them.
it's approachable while still presenting to them the kind of depth that earns our love of the medium.
(oh, and it's been released on just about every platform under the sun, so no barrier of options there.)
