I really want to volunteer. Is the backlog of volunteers that huge that they won't open registration quite yet? Because I want to buy my ticket now before they run out. Oh well, I'll err on the safe side.

buy badges now. if they are recruiting enforcers and you are chosen, they will refund your badge.

Correct. I would not expect the call for new Enforers, if there is one, to be before badges sell out. Better safe than sorry.

Is it PAX <insert nearest future PAX here> yet?

Ok, Question I am unsure how to join the Omegathon? Can I still sign up?

When you register for your badge check the box that says you would like to be in the running for the Omegathon.

  • EndersstyleEndersstyle Registered User regular
I didn't see a box for that I just went back in and still don't see it.

I believe it only shows up if you're buying a three day pass? Which at this point, you can't do.

  • EndersstyleEndersstyle Registered User regular
I did buy 3 day passes and I didn't see it at all but I guess now its to late and there's nothing I can do?

Yeah, it only shows up if you purchase a 3-day pass, which are now sold out.

Edit: I'm wrong, I just went to registration, selected one of each day and clicked "continue" and it had the checkbox front and center.

First timer, here. First, I'm SO EXCITED, i've been trying to get to pax since the very first one. Second, it seems like tons of people play DS at and around the event, what games are they playing? I'm considering getting a DS but i'm not huge on pokemon so i'm curious about what other stuff people are playing.

I had brought my ds and completely ignored it the whole time but id assume a lot of mario kart, nsmb 2 and any other games where you can benefit from handhelds. I missed the handheld gaming area last year but definitely wanna check it out this time. I hope theres some Pokemon going on.

Generally any multiplayer game is likely in high rotation, especially Nintendo's first party titles (mario kart for example). Someone might start a handheld thread related to this later too, and that might help out.

I brought my 3DS with Mario Kart and my husband's DS Lite with Mario Kart for that too, thinking I'd want a backup in case my 3DS battery died. I ended up leaving the Lite in my hotel and had my 3DS for SpotPass (soooooo many) and that's about it!

I didnt know when I first got 3DS that if you went to the streetpass gate thing that shows all the people you passed you had to do the dungeon game or puzzle swap before exiting it :( lost so many puzzle pieces.

I wasn't sure where to post this so I am just gonna throw it in here. Any advice on when to purchase flights? The earlier the better? Magical sweet spot 6 weeks before? I'm trying to be as economically efficient as possible so any advice helps. :) (If this is the wrong thread for this post, my apologies)

probably yes. i mean, you're well within your rights to buy the space and do what you like with it, but byoc space is pretty limited and is primarily intended for pc gamers to do pc gaming soooo.... yeah, probably not the best move.

I think saying it's only for Windows PCs is probably a little bit off the mark, but there very likely won't be bandwidth for you to upload your footage. It's not about the "hardcore gamers," it's that the bandwidth is meant for gaming so wasting it on video upload might get frowned upon.

What do I do if I wanted to be a vendor? Is this possible? I can't seem to find any information on this. I've emailed the exhibitor email and gotten no response. I was trying to find out if it's possible to get a table or booth to sell gamer jewelry. I'm very new to cons and PAX would only be my 2nd one.

The exhibitor email is the correct contact location. You could also try pax_questions@paxsite.com but they'll probably tell you exhibitor email ;)

It will indeed be frowned upon! And throttled, so there's that.

How long are the single day passes expected to say available for?

I'm probably going to opt for them instead of dealing with scalpers but I won't have the money for awhile...

There's no way to tell. if you take a look at http://east.paxsite.com it should have either "available, low, or sold out" for each badge type. Low (I think) means there are 1/3 of the allotted badges of that type left. That's really the only indication any of us have.

I can only speak for 2011 but the external bandwidth was a trickle at best. I think you'll be frustrated/disappointed if you're trying to use it to upload videos.

As per the hotel thread nothing is set with shuttles yet but I think if the hotel was on the Pax list then it has shuttle.

Id like to know what times the shuttles run.

I keep seeing people talk about a pre-pax dinner. I want to know the basics like Who, what, where and when. I can handle the how. Thanks much.

None of that info is available yet. I might poke the guy who ran it last year and see if he's planning on doing so again.

http://www.bing.com/travel/ is the site I like best for buying airfare. I'm used to the sweet spot being 8 weeks before, but it does vary.

pre-pax dinner is a dinner (duh) for pax forumers to meet and socialize the thursday evening before pax. acumen is in charge of that, and i know he's already thinking about next year's dinner. a thread will likely go up soon with more details.

Ugh, yes. Figured it out about halfway through PAX last year. Would be nice if the limit wasn't 10.

I don't need to fly for East, but I fly frequently for business, 75k miles per year. My general advice is to monitor the sales of major airlines in the new year. For example, I was able to get JFK -> LAX for $258 round trip on Delta by watching the sales closely. All the majors - Delta, Jet Blue, American, United have sales from time to time, but they're usually for departure on Tues or Weds and return trip saturday. So that may or may not work. Sometimes you can make them switch it to an early Sunday flight and still get the discounted rate. YMMV.

That said, if a sale time frame won't work for you, it is usually better to book travel earlier. As soon as you see a price you're comfortable with, I would say to grab tickets. That reduces the anxiety of booking travel and almost always gives you better seating options. Everyone has their tick - some like aisle, some like window, some like am flights, etc. If I'm on a long flight, I actually enjoy a connecting flight from time to time, as long as there is a decent window (approximately 2 hours). That way you can get out, stretch, walk around, eat something. Doing a quick one stop usually only delays you a couple of hours and can save you hundreds of dollars. That's up to you though. It may not be worth it to you.

For example, a one stop on delta SEA -> BOS is currently $362 round trip (given the lowest AM fares). I don't know where you're flying from, but that's not bad.

You can email registration@paxsite.com with any questions of that nature. None of us will be able to help you in all likelyness :(

Less normal question: If I become an enforcer, can I keep my badge and give it to a friend instead of a refund? (several friends did not get a badge this year due to not being fast enough.)

Sure. The refund isn't mandatory. When I was accepted, I just cancelled from the registration page. The next PAX when I bought a pass I sold it to another Enforcer for a friend of theirs. Both perfectly valid.

Is it PAX <insert nearest future PAX here> yet?
