New/Latest post behavior

Clicking on a thread to go to the latest post goes to the #latest post, rather than the page number. So when I went to the next page after reading that first one, and then hit the browser's back button to go back and reread a post, rather than loading the page where it was, it instead loaded a couple posts from the very end of the thread, skipping over a few pages of posts I had never even opened. This also occurs if you use the browser's refresh button when the url is /discussion/threadnumber/theadtitle#latest.

Is this the intended behaviour?

I don't think this is going to change (most of it, at least), it's pretty much working as intended from my understanding. The thread title brings you to the newest post, denoted by the #latest at the end. If you go somewhere else, then go back to that page, then it will bring you to whatever the "new" latest post is, since that's the site you went to, technically.

I think in the old system, "go to newest post" would actually link you to that post, but that's just not how it's done in Vanilla.

Now, there is a weird bug which is part of what you mentioned where when you go to a thread, it will then assume you have read the entirety of the thread. So even if there were pages to catch up on, the next time you go to the latest post it'll take you to the end. This seems to be considered a bug based on this thread (which you posted in :P), but there's no update from IcyLiquid or another Vanilla guy or forum admin on when this is getting fixed.

I could have sworn that it still went back when you pressed back, before this last downtime, rather than reloading the "newest" post

Yes it went back before the latest Maintenance.

Really? I thought it would still go to the newest post, although that would usually just be the next page, not the end of the thread like now. I guess I'm just crazy. Ignore me :P.
