I think Gabe's expression with more text from the YouTube guy would have been better.

Yeah, last panel turns this into a newspaper-style comic. (devoid of funny)

The first two panels were good, then entering the third the comic stepped on a rake, fell down a flight of stairs, and got hit by a bus at the bottom.

One could easily imagine that the newspost could start with the line "There is always a point in in every YouTube video where the creator is revealed to be completely fucking insane".
It seems like a very news-posty sentence. At least, it seems more like a newspost then the punchline of a comic.

I have to give them credit. In over a decade of video game comics, this is the first time I've seen them just use the last panel to explain the joke.

It's definitely not the norm. Has anyone checked to see if they have a concussion? Mods?

Sometimes the ones that clearly aren't crazy are the most maddening. I had a weird netbook that was being very temperamental during disassembly, and turned to youtube. Found a video that was clearly the same model, followed it painstakingly through each step, until I got to a part where it warned me not to try to remove the motherboard until I got ALL FIVE screws, because of some of the delicate connections you could tug. There are FIVE, the last one is hard to find. Because of a poorly timed angle adjustment, you can't see where the guy's taking the fifth out from, but the rest of the video is accurate and he clearly knows what he's talking about. I had every reason to believe him about those delicate connections, too. I'd already fed wires through small holes on the motherboard to remove the wifi card, and there was a ribbon cable that actually slid through a slot on the speakers, and part of the motherboard was actually slipped between the paired wires coming from the power socket.

Spent fifteen minute carefully disconnecting a bunch of stuff trying to find that last screw before risking the "pull on it and see where it sticks" method, at which point the motherboard just lifted right out. There were four holes for the four screws, and no sign of anywhere there could have possibly been a fifth.

This is the least Penny Arcade-y Penny Arcade comic I've seen in a long time.

Maybe it's just a subtle acknowledgement to the end of CAD.

Not that Buckley is done in his endless quest to murder humor, only that he's decided his standard array of weapons was insufficient to the task.

I definitely didn't need to watch that video for the second time in my life. Once was more than enough.

Some YouTube explanation videos aren't done by crazy people. @Klyka and I have a pair that are pretty normal, don't we?

I think this comic is absolutely outrageous. I mean, if the YouTube video was playing, the symbol at the bottom would be of a pause sign! Penny Arcade has officially jumped the shark.

But seriously, I do concur with the sentiments about the final panel. Had it just been Gabe's face, or Gabe's face while the YouTube video continues to twitter on (providing plenty of opportunity for stupidity and surrealism), I feel it would have been a much better punch. This is just kind of... flat.
    Still fun though.

Uhhhh... what? They've been knocking it out of the park pretty consistently lately. This particular one is a little weak but nobody turns out gold every single time they try.

Also, I can't say the comic even speaks to my experiences. I've generally found (serious) how-to videos on Youtube to be pretty helpful. I'm thinking it's a PEBKAC issue (or whatever the Smartphone equivalent is).

Dark Raven X's video link is the best thing this comic has given me.

Oh, forgot to comment on the Newspost:
Okay, so, now the Alienware he purchased is giving him the same kinds of trouble every computer always gives him eventually. This is after sending two machines in a row back to iBuyPower and then buying the new machine in a blind rage, imagining that he could outrun his own devastating electromagnetic field by switching vendors.
Uh, that's not a Gabe E-M field. That's what happens when you buy from iBuyPower.

Forgot the part where the guy in the video is sniffing non-stop throughout the video.

Also the five minutes of "subscribe to my channel" and how he hasn't posted a video in a while but now he's got a new camera since th'old one dun went n' burnt itself out.

Good first panel setup, good second panel build...and then that third panel is everything they've ever sneered at in comicdom. If it had just been Gabe with that expression and a closed mouth, no dialog bubble, perfectly serviceable.

As it is, not their best work. (That was, as I mentioned in the thread, Friday's strip.)

Is the wifebeater-wearing, unkempt man with large bushy eyebrows and a big nose in the YouTube video a reference to "John Videogames" from that one strip about Kickstarter scams?

I think "unkempt and wearing a wifebeater" is just their standard visual shorthand for shady/untrustworthy/crazy. This guy really doesn't look much like John, apart from their shared taste in clothing and grooming habits.

Potentially after all the shit that went down around John Videogames, Mike decided that saving the darker skin tones for untrustworthy people was maybe not a great idea, so now untrustworthy people are white.

I don't know that there was any shit that went down aside from a couple of people complaining on the forum (one of whom was subsequently banned for being a total flake), which given Mike and Jerry's attitude toward the forum they likely as not weren't even aware of.

Mike used to post every once in a while in the new comic thread and I would guess that he still reads it. That's pretty much the only thread on the forums he ever read/reads and of course Jerry never comes on here but Jerry doesn't specify skin colors in the script so that's kind of irrelevant.

If there was actually a shitstorm over the arbitrary physical appearance of John Videogames, then I am disappointed in all of you, PA forums.

Like I said, it was just a few people in the thread for that comic...and one of them was this guy. It was not a dickwolves-level shitstorm. It was not even a Hitman Absolution sexy nuns level shitstorm.
