-There is no voice acting in the game. I’m not sure we could ever find voices that everyone would like and so we chose to go with text bubbles and character portraits instead.
Oh, come on.
Tycho: David Hyde Pierce
Gabe: Michael Dorn
It's JUST THAT EASY.

It's going to be a 20$ game. I would love to see voice acting but I'm not sure it would work.
I dunno man, I kind of like the idea of just text. It'd be like giving Calvin and Hobbes, or Link, or any similar characters spoken dialogue. It just would feel kind of weird.
I think that it's good for there to be no voice acting. I don't want Gabe and Tycho to be assigned voices. I'd rather decide how they sound for myself.
On a next gen game... ya gotta have voice acting at least in some parts or not all of the game. I've a feeling critics are gonna bust on your if there's no voice acting and call it being cheap and lazy.
Either way you get my money, but if you wanna hit a homerun across the boards... voice acting.

That and a point and click RPG for the DS.
How about you wait until the game's complete and see how well it fits into the game overall? I think your assertion that critics will automatically pan it is unfounded. It's all a matter of how well it's implemented into the game. If they do the dialog bubbles in a way that fits with the overall game then that'll be ok. Also this is definitely not a "next gen" game as they've made pretty clear.
I don't mind the game not being voice acted, but it would be cool to have a scene with Tycho and Gabe providing voices for "themselves" as an extra or something.

I don't think Gabe and Tycho care what reviewers say.

I really only registerred to see if there was word about voice acting. It's a bit of a relief that there WON'T be voice actors; like someone else said, I like imagining the voices myself..
But personally, if I were to pick anyone-
Tycho: Brian Posehn
And gabe... gah, I don't remember exactly because it's been a year since I Watched ANY tv, so I dont remember the character OR voice actor I was thinking of, but i imagine him having a sort of early 20's, punky tenor voice that scratches a bit when he gets excited or puts emphasis into something. Quite expressive, but a little naive.

If I worked for IGN I would definitely make that the first line of the review, even if I liked it.

Considering how much work either of those guys are getting I bet it would hardly affect the budget.

If they had pay for someone famous it would be expensive. Gabe and tycho aren't really the voice actor type imho. I bet if they practiced a fair amount they could be alright but I meant that "i'm not sure it would work" in the sense that It wouldn't feel right.
I'd honestly like to see more videogames cut voice acting and FMV honestly. Supreme commander is a good example of annoying voice acting.
I think tom and jerry the movie should be a somber reminder to everyone as to how deeply something can be ruined by applying a voice to a character that does not speak, not that i mean g and t are mimes, but, i think by now everyone has given them their own version of their voices, and the only way that can be maintained is via a text interface.
While it's probably for the best, I couldn't help but be a little disappointed. I'd PAY to get to do a voice in the PA game. Mostly because it's probably about the only way I could make a positive contribution to it. If thought Tycho couldn't draw....
Edit:
Tycho: Patrick Stewart
Gabe: Patrick Warburton
Miscellaneous female characters: Tress MacNeille. Have you seen her filmography? She's in everything, including several games and cartoons we all know and love. Besides, one of her pseudonyms is "Terror MacNihil." How cool is that?
Everyone talks about how great it would be to get famous person X to the voice acting...
...but what if they had a PA fan contest (PA Idol...oh god), and put their voices in the game (With the option to allow voices or just text)?
A sort of PA:AC BT, but with a creative voice talent reading of their own dynamic story would be fantastic, methinks!

I have an idea. Why don't you get a few of your friends over, down a few cold ones, rock-paper-scissors for who gets what character and then say the lines out loud yourself?
I originally was suggesting this as a joke but halfway through typing it I thought how fucking fun it would be to do this...

Like most of you I am glad about the lack of vocie acting. David Hyde Peirce aside there's nobody who could really mimick Tycho and Gabe as I imagine their voices.

Have you ever played Resident Evil?
It's... supposed to be cheap.
Get it?
Do you get it?

Are you sure ...?
(I kid, I was just in the mood to dig up and post some really old stuff)
The only real problem is that a commentary is a little bit* overkill for a single episode.
*Kind of like the Titanic sprung a little leak.
I can't wait to see how they integrate him into the game.
*Flaming car appears out of nowhere and drunkenley swerves into lamp-post*

More so, because I want to hear James Earl Jones say, "Jesus is fucking metal!"
