Cyberpunk’s A ‘Sandbox,’ But What Does That Mean?
“We meant that in terms of open-world, basically,” CD Projekt’s Agnieszka Szostak told RPS. “But we won’t just throw you in the open world and let go of the storytelling. The story and creating the main plot will still be very, very important for us. But the sandbox environment means that actually you won’t be limited to this particular story. You’ll just be able to enjoy the world all around you. Which is really, really challenging, because it’s very difficult to find the proper balance between the very immersive story we try to tell, the world we try to create, and the freedom we want to give gamers.”
“But this is actually something that’s very connected to the whole Cyberpunk universe. If we go 50-plus years from now, you’d want to be able to delve really deeply into some strange and unique places. The challenge for us is to first find a balance and then to create an environment that won’t see you lose the main plot if you decide to leave it for a couple hours.”
“In terms of how difficult they’ll be or what impact they’ll have, I can definitely tell you that we won’t go any lower than The Witcher,” said Szostak. ”We want to go even deeper. We want to make it even more real. In The Witcher, we didn’t have any black and whites. Only gray areas. That’s exactly how life works. And if we’re going to do a game for adult gamers, they can’t feel like, ‘OK, the only decision to make it kill the babies or save the babies.’ It’s way more complex than that.”
I love cyberpunk and I have been fantasizing about someone making a Harvest Moon-esque Cyberpunk game and I even drew some concept art for it while I fantasize.

CD Projekt has the feel nailed down so far. Given how pretentious I can get about the whole cyberpunk aesthetic/genre thing, that should say something.
Definitely looking forward to this one after that trailer, I hadn't been paying too much attention to it before because literally naming it "cyberpunk" seemed too... on the nose I guess.
Never played any of the old shadowrun games come to think of it. Or shadowrun the rpg, though my friends are trying to get a game together.

To be fair, it's based on the pen-n-paper RPG Cyberpunk 2020. So while the name is a bit blunt, at least there's a reason for it.
I played A LOT of the Cyberpunk rpg back in high school, so I'm really excited to see what CD Projekt does with it. The trailer feels dead-on to me, I'm just bummed that it's still a loooooooong way off from being released.
I recently went back and played a bit of Shadowrun for the Sega Genesis and hooboy does that not hold up quite as well as I remember.
Young me sure loved that hacking.
I dunno, I replay it every once in a while and still love it. I just use the "ABACABB" debug code and just pick fast walking to speed it up and make it easier nowadays. Still love the hacking parts.
Also god , that game concept you drew up looks amazing and I wish it was a real game cause I would pay any money for it
Also what's that upcoming cyberpunk game that looked like deus ex, like the gameplay video showed you hacking like street lights and electric doors and pulling up info on people and there was a car accident you caused then you like broke people's necks? I remember thinking that game looked amazing, but haven't heard anything else about it
As soon as neural network I interfaces become a thing I am going to want one. I'd love a brain computer that let's me wirelessly interact with people and things.
It'd also be awesome to copy my brain and send it across the world to download into a rental body for a vacation in Fiji or something while the alpha me stayed here and earned money for the trip.
Maybe get adventurous with the SO and swap bodies every other Friday night for some role-play.
I talk like this could happen in my lifetime but I think this level of cyberpunk is going to be regulated to pure science fiction for an extremely long time.
This is a super cool book about the coming advent of all the shit that makes settings like Deus Ex and Cyberpunk and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep/Blade Runner possible.
This guy talks about it all with such conviction that I really want to believe I can have a robot brain before I'm 60, and that it will be as universally problem-solving as he believes
But part of me is just thinking "Nah, this shit gonna be Deus Ex as Hell"
It's interesting watching Mike Pondsmith and the dude from CD Projekt RED talk about this game and the audience is just dead as fuck. I feel bad that they got such a dead audience, because you can tell the guy from CDPR is really nervous. Mike just rolls with it, but the audience gives them nothing.

I really hope 'difficult' doesn't simply mean more menus, although considering the pedigree I'm sure they know what they're doing.
Steam
God I loved this game so much when I was little.

I think I'm scared of cyberpunk
and when you put them together it is the best boner
Looking forward to this.

the idea of a central operating system is so far away though.. we'll probably have deus ex level mechanic limbs before that..

That "Remember Me" game they were showing off last summer looked pretty cool. Supposedly coming out in May of this year.

The developers did a Google Hangout thing with some journalists last month.

I'm interested but I hope it is not too linear and it is not filled with QTEs.
