i'm working my way through Gibson's Bigend Trilogy right now

my copy of Spook Country arrived in the mail today, and the paperback edition has a giant picture of Gibson's wrinkly face on the back of it

like, huge. it takes up nearly the entirety of the back cover, and this is a big C Format paperback

    it's very off-putting

The nice thing about hardcover books is that if the cover is annoying you can just take it off.

This so much, the steam trailer had me think man this could be really fun

But then it turns out to be an incredibly tedious source mod game and I just could not be bothered to figure it out

also, the other day I watched THX 1138 by George Lucas (of star wars fame)

That movie was incredibly weird and not (in my opinion) particularly good. It had some neat things in it though, and the pacing and occasionaly ambiguity reminded me a whole hell of a lot of bladerunner

Whether "the movie reminded me a whole hell of a lot of Blade Runner" is meant as praise or as condemnation tells you as much about the person reviewing the movie as it does about the movie itself, I think. But yes, I think the pacing and ambiguity that the two movies share are somewhat similar, and they both work with a pretty small cast of characters.

Although neither are really cyberpunk to any real degree.

EYE was so much fun, it was complete gibberish mixed with guns and swords and magic powers and shit and I loved exploding dudes and chopping dudes and teleporting and I could go on and on about how much I loved it

The creepiest part of this is that the women who made up her various parts are credited.

I looked at my wrists today

I have bone structure like a bird, if I fall wrong I know something is going to break (this has happened before when I was wee)

I leaned in real close, told 'em "I would replace you guys with some kind of carbon filaments in, like, a second"

"simian.interface" is kind of what I imagined hacking was like in Neuromancer. - JP LeBreton, designer who worked on BioShock, BioShock 2, and The Cave.

so clearly that means simian.interface should go into the cyberpunk thread

    DO NOT DELETE BIOS.BIN

and I clicked the banana and then it all ended

it seemed like there was one more thing coming

    That was certainly a thing.

I really liked that. I hadn't thought too hard about why "fill the box" mechanics work so well to reinforce a feeling of hacking in Cyberspace. (Thomas Was Alone did that, and it worked there as well.) Seeing the pattern- and color-based puzzles helps. I guess it's just expecting a precise input while giving the player a wide framework.

Wouldn't mind seeing models move quicker in the final product

other than that, goddamn. game is looking really solid in a surprisingly short amount of time.

Seems like they're going for an RPG xcom gameplay system with the turn based stuff.

Also, working for the azzies? Always a bad idea. Always.
