It would certainly be nice, wouldn't it?
I've never played an AC game before but it's always been on my to do list. I even gave Over G Fighters a shot.
I'm looking forward to this.
You poor bastard.
I bought AC5 deluxe on a whim with 05 xmas cash. It was, honestly, one of the best gaming purchases I have ever made in my life. I've yet to play Zero (I deeply regret) but the stick was backwards compatible with AC04 (even though some controls were flip flopped, and nobody anywhere produced a manual to explain how the fucking stick works in either game).
I wish I could find Zero for an ok price.

Which PS2 game is the best? I have along list of stuff I misse don the ps2 that I'll pick up if I see it cheap, and I should probably add an AC game to it.
Unfortunately everyone has their favorites. I enjoyed both AC4 and AC5. I'd say go for both as they can be had for $20 a pop new or less used.
AC05 for
Both games take place in the same world, but involve different countries. In 04 the story revolves around a man writing a letter about the top ace pilot of the enemy forces. It's more of a side story to the missions. Your character really isn't mentioned. Gameplay wise, 04 also had "return lines" where you can re-arm missiles. That was taken out in 5.
Spoiler about the ending:
In 5, the story revolves around your squadmates and yourself. The missions play a more important part of the plot. Many people feel that the plot of 5 in much more "anime"ish than 04. Speaking of squadmates, 5 introduced squadron commands, and you can assign each pilot different planes.
There isn't much continuity to the stories, so you can start out with either. However, a "Nagase" shows up as a civilian pilot in 04. I personally think it's the same Nagase, one of your wingmen, in 5.

Unless 6 suddenly comes out.
And you get to bomb shit prettily.
I'd get five before four.
Hmm, AC0 seems to be th eonly one that supports 480p. I hate how 480i PS2 games look on my display.
So what's the downside with zero?
Although you only have one wingman in Zero, the commands work much better than 5.
Also: Can they get shot down? Ever?
You're insane. Pixy is the most badass wingman i've ever had in an ace combat game. He takes out shit constantly, and I love it.
I like 04 and zero the most. 5 had a very good storyline, but i simply didn't like the radio chatter. It was useless banter. 04 had basically strictly realistic military radio chatter, which i thought was pretty awesome, and zero had a nice balance of the two IMHO. I liked how the story was done in zero, because much like in AC04, how your actions are described through a boy who hang out with the enemy airforce, your actions in zero are after the fact interviews with the airforce themselves. It puts a real interesting spin on story when you find out how your actions affected their lives.
I should mention that, if you want to see everything Zero has to offer, you should play through it 3 times, once per pilot-type.
Edit: It's also worth mentioning that since the missions in these games are so intense, they seem to go on for 30 minutes or more. Usually missions are 5 or 10 minutes in length, though there are a few lengthy ones.
NO! 4 and Zero have no training mode. 5 has a training mode.
Spectator mode in Ace Combat 6 is going to be awesome, especially if they up the graphical details like collateral damage, curtails, exhaust trails and explosions.
I want to see SMOKE EVERYWHERE AND I WANT IT TO BLOW AROUND WHEN I FLY THROUGH IT.
4 has a training mode, noob.
I used the first stage as my training mode. I called it "Don't smash into the ass of those giant planes." Took me a while to pass that one.
You can't see it, but my pants are on the tensile limit. I bought a PS2 just for AC4 and enjoyed every minute of it. Whilst 5 and 0 never quite matched it they were still superb games, just lacking in anything on par with the missions 'Shattered Skies' and 'Whiskey Corridor/Bunker shot'. I'm actually replaying 5 now and getting back into it (trying to fill those damn kill bars - one of pet peeves from 5), still one of the best stories of the series (really nice cut scenes too - goodbye Kestrel).
Always peeved me that the UK never got the flight stick though
My other sig sucks as well...
You ever see a nerd tear up? Everyone in my class that day did. I get a little misty-eyed just thinkin about it.
I've got several smaller squadron patches I've collected from squadrons/projects I have worked for but that would be the ultimate prize for my collection.
The nice thing about 4 in particular but the series in general is that youi can tell the developers loved their aircraft. If you fly any of the F-15, switch to cockpit view, look out at the intakes and start feeding in the throttle you can see the ramps descend as the aircraft goes transonic. Similarly at top speed in the F-14 the glove vanes flip out. Both of those are something you see rarely in flight simulators but here they are in an 'arcade' game.
The other cool thing was the F-117 in AC4. It shouldn't have a gun or AA missiles yet the dev team managed to integrate them in a way that at least seems feasible. When you fire the gun a hatch briefly opens whilst the trigger is down so that the RCS is preserved. That's cool. Shame the F-117 never seemed to benefit from stealth.
My other sig sucks as well...
I also got the huge wardog patch that came with the flightstick. It's awexome.
Maybe do it like it works in Final Fantasy. A name here and there but differant universes entirely.
What was the project on? That sounded awesome.
Screw the hoodie. You need to get yourself one of these to put the patches on.
It wasn't a project. The prof just wanted someone to play AC5 with the flight stick to demonstrate "simulations". I was the only person in the class who had played any Ace Combat game, so I volunteered. Hadn't used the stick before, either. But I did bring in my memory card so the class could see the beginning of First Flight. It's the mission where
Ah, awesome.
"Come on, come on come on come on!"
I was actually planning on it (why I havn't done it until now) but I don't have the money and never really like leather jackets.
Right now, the highest quality digital image of the mobius squadron logo appears here: http://www.acecombat04.com/img/world/frontline_s_1.jpg
I've been attempting for the past couple months to obtain a higher resolution version, as I wish to make this a tattoo. My friend is using illustrator to make it, but is having trouble with the background. The only other place that background appears is in one of the trailers, and the screengrab i have of it is also very low rez.
I have a strategy guide on the way from japan that has a small logo on the cover. It may be small but I can scan it in at very high rez and then i can provide it to you guys and my artist friend. Maybe then you can have your patch made and I can get my tattoo.
Sigh.. seems like the only way to get the Yuke ones would to buy somebodies flight stick bundle on ebay.
Unless of course somebody here wants to sell 'em?
Come now, if they're sitting around make a man happy!
I actually didn't like the F-117 being in game, and refused to fly it out of principle. But that's because I'm a nerd.

I got that giant Wardog patch.
I kinda thought it was the most retarded gaming paraphernalia I'd ever seen.
