You don't have to quit WoW, but if it's keeping you from studying, you should severly cut back on your playtime. Try that first, and if it still doesn't work, then consider just quitting altogether.
Honestly, I know WoW is fun and all, but school is far more important. You'll have time to play MMOs later when you can afford it because of the good job you earned from your decent education.
Speaking from experience. Either learn how to manage your time, and control yourself. Or if you're like me and have no self control then yes, for the love of all that is holy save yourself from the downward spiral you have set yourself in, all it will bring you and your loved ones is pain.
If you cant handle managing your study time, you will always find some excuse not to do your work. Blaming WoW (or pretty much anything else) is just looking for an excuse. Get enough work done and you can do whatever you like with the rest of your time.
But this is impossible if he needs it to study. What he can do is turn his computer into a workstation, deleting and uninstalling every last piece of recreation.

you could just not play WoW and get some excersize
it helps your brain focus which would in turn help you study
WoW isn't going to determine what you do with the rest of your life
but that is just my opinion

I did, and it worked. Eventually I was able to do both, but I needed to take that 5 month break.

Anyway I have to go play WoW.
Yes, take a break from WoW and get your life in order.
Then go back when you think you can better manage your time.
