I remember thinking Knuckles' Chaotix was the hottest shit when I was a kid. Granted, I was a huge Sega/Sonic fanboy and loved my 32X, but boy did that game have great art. Also, it's the first and last time that I was happy to see a bunch of new characters introduced in a Sonic game. Mighty, Espio, Vector, Charmy... they all felt very true to the universe and had neat character design.
Well, maybe it's not the last time I welcomed a big cast. I dug the variety of Sonic Adventure 1. But that was more off-the-wall. Having Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy was neat - Big and E-102 were overproduced, a trend that really continued with Shadow and Rouge in SA2. The Sonic Forces character design stuff seems like it hews more closely to the old-school design, which is a good thing.

I kinda hope there's an option to make the custom character just Sonic from Boom. Cause with the gadgets, the enerbeam grappling hook especially, and the 'infinite realities' storyline going on, really looked like that was the direction it was going!
(Of course, in this scenario I'd still like them to refer to Boom Sonic as a generic rookie and not acknowledge him as another version of the main dude, because that seems funnier)
In that case, Boom Tails, Boom Knuckles, and especially Boom Amy and Sticks would be most welcome.
Guess we can hope for DLC?

The Boom cast are aware they're in a technically better game and can't handle the new reality. Boom Sonic is afraid to run fast because the smooth frame rate is so uncomfortable to him
They probably planned to do Sonic Boom as the third character but switched up when the fans hated it. The weird thing is, 'Modern' Sonic is stil voiced by the same guy as Boom (I think?) so would have been interesting too see that interaction.
I think it would be cool if they did a game that brought back a lot of older or obscure characters with neat designs. Like the Chaotix guys or the characters from Sonic The Fighters, they look really neat but have been trapped in bad games. Maybe since Mania did so well they could add some characters to that, would love to see what those devs could make out of them.
Infinite is obviously Sonic from Dark Brotherhood. He never took the world back from Eggman since the series got cancelled, and so he became super jaded and gave up on saving the world.
I'm going to guess, since you aren't allowed to change the physique of your custom character, that Infinite is the bad-timeline version of you. ... even if that makes no sense.
My favorite musical instrument is the air-raid siren.

I think Infinite is gonna turn out to be a genetic chimera, a mashup of Sonic's friends, cause he appears to have a lot of disparate elements like bat ears, a floofy tail and possibly echidna dreads?
And Sonic as a franchise does like it's Dragonball references. This'd be their Cell.

You were both part of a grand experiment to create the ultimate being. Infinite was a failed specimen that escaped from the lab. The player character was the control specimen.
If those rumours about Tails making the rounds turn out to be true, there could be a reason why it's not him.

The other is that Infinite is Tails from some far off timeline where he turned bad.
For the record I don't take stock in any of these rumours 'cause they all seem to be a bit much for a Sonic game, but they're fun to discuss I guess, haha.

Haha, I was hanging out in a Sonic chat the other day (don't judge me) and someone tried to convince me that
Infinite is Tails from the bad ending of the Game Gear version of Sonic The Hedgehog 2, as the plot of that game is Dr. Eggman kidnapping Tails so Sonic has to rescue him. So in the bad ending Sonic never rescues Tails, so obviously he grows up to become Infinite.
Infinite is Sonic's old shoes. That figure eight was him joining in on Sonic's journey. He seeks revenge for being discarded after too many chili dogs dribbled on him.
I can't deal with these fan theories. I don't need X or Y zany/one-off thing to happen to spice up my Sonic lore!
Just introduce third timeline Sonic (voiced by Jaleel White) to a team-up between Classic Chubby Sonic and Modern Sonic and I'll be happy. People spent two decades complaining about annoying and unnecessary new and non-classic characters? Have it your way! Crisis on Infinite Sonics!
