Voting is due by Monday April 22nd, 10:00am Pacific.

UPDATE 4/16/13
So here is the next poll:

I have simplified it into two choices:
1. PAX PRIME 2013 / PAX PRIME
2. WELCOME HOME (English or Latin)

Once we decided on which of those categories we want, we will then do one more final voting.
I won't set a due date for voting yet until I we see if the voting is close or not.

UPDATE 4/15/13
Voting has closed and we will be keeping the banner (28 vs 17). The current three choices for what the banner will say is:

"PAX PRIME 2013"
"PAX PRIME"
"WELCOME HOME"

If these are the choices we want I will put the voting thread up this afternoon.

UPDATE 4/9/13
Here are the two designs we need to choose from Please click the following link to vote:
Click here to vote by April 15th, 10:00am Pacific
The "Welcome Home" phrase does not have to be final, it is just showing the general look with a banner.

Old info:
Last year I brought up the idea of possibly creating a lapel pin out of the forum crest and thought I would bring it up again this year since it looks like pin trading is going to be a big thing at Pax now.
We could use the full crest and add "PAX Prime 2013" to it somewhere, or just use the crest itself.

I am organizing the challenge coin as well and Phoenix Challenge Coins also does lapel pins. I figure we could probably get a good deal doing them together. At the very least we might be able to save on shipping.

So let me know if there is interest in doing this. And weather we would want it to have " Pax Prime 2013" on it.

Yes, I am sure PA will have official pins, but the point is to create a forum pin out of our Forumer Crest:

Any idea of a place these could get done through?

Since it looks like there will be enough interest I went ahead and had Phoenix Challenge Coins create a mock up from the full forum crest and here is the first result:
    i7kv6IWl.jpg

And here is the original file

My take on the first draft is:
    1. The roundness of the pin makes it look too much like a coin, I would like to just have it follow the contours of the crest itself and lose the background rays & stars.
    2. The "Pax Prime 2013" banner is too low and should be moved up so we can see the cookie at the top.
    3. The "Pms 1525c" color looks orange to me, it needs to be red.

If this image has too much going on color wise, I can submit the crest that was used on the steins last year (the one I posted earlier in this thread).

Let me know what you think and I will have PCC mock up another draft, unless of course my comments are way off and everyone else loves how it looks right now.

Agree with your points for the most part. The colors just seem off and too many of them. I'd personally say go with the one above that went on the Steins.

As for the shape while I don't mind the circle shape I'll agree it's got too much going on and looks a little coin like. If everyone doesn't like a circle for the shape have you/we considered maybe a solid colored(white) 3 or 4 pointed shield? The crest itself is a shield so it would be our crest on the shield, and I can only guess how expensive it would be to cut out every edge. With all the ribbon and small circles.

Follow the contours of the crest, and yes, all the ideas you had are good. I think the beer stein design style would probly work best. Unless you can tweak this enough to work better.

I love the idea of it being just the shape of the crest...but I also love the idea of putting it on a shield if that doesn't work out!

Another great idea. In agreement with others, it should be a in the shape of a crest instead of the coin shape. Not sure if that increases the price but I'm sure the manufacturer will let you know.

Here is the revised mock up:

    Here is the original file.

And here is a similar example of what the outer scroll work might look like:
    YqZj3H6.jpg

    My take on the redesign:
I like the overall look, and really the only thing I see that needs addressed is the underside banner colors don't match (The Pax 2013 one is a dark red & the bottom one is black). I think the dark red might look better on both.
The only other thing is the overall use of color. Do we like the way it is, or do we want to simplify the color scheme?
    Let me know your opinions.

I think I would be a bit worried about the scroll work catching on stuff. I guess I was imagining something more flat like the Pinny Arcade pins:

I think I would be a bit worried about the scroll work catching on stuff.
Because of the tiny points & curves, the edge won't be flat like the pinny arcade pins unless we decided to have a border like a shield. The problem I see with a shield is the crest is thicker at the bottom than the top and I don't think it would fit.

We could have a general outline that followed the general form of the crest, but didn't cut in for every nook & cranny.

The grey on the design makes it look faded. Is that the look we want? I think that black would make it pop more. Similar to the stein design is what I am thinking I guess.

I'm googling on my phone at lunch, so I can't post pictures until I get off ,but depending on the shape we wanted I think a shield would be our best bet. It doesn't look like the crest is that much larger at the base than the top. So unless we tried to do like an exact outline and someone looked REALLY close I don't think it would be really obvious.

I'll post a couple pictures after work

I kind of like the idea of the pewter color for the scroll work details. It gives the forum pin a real elegant look, a kind of fancy that will make people do a double take.

The pewter pin shown above is just an example of what the scroll work might look like, not the color though. The color is raised black nickle.

Could someone show me what this 'shield' is? I son t know what it is or looks like.

I like the color scheme, and yes, dark red on the banner, not black. Could we darken the color of the font at the top, the grey gets a little lost, to me.

I like this but I'd really prefer it without the year on it. I imagine once a design in nailed down, it will be the same design each year (much like the mugs) and I think inclusion if the year is more fitting for things that will change each year (like the coins). Unfortunately for me, it seems that point was already decided :(
Onto points that are still being discussed. I prefer the image with fewer colors. I think this looks busy for a pin and it will be cleaner and classier with fewer colors. I prefer the black under the scroll (instead of the darker red), but not if the other parts that are traditionally black stay gray.

Finally off so like I was saying for a possible shield back was thinking possibly something like

    blankshield.gif

    Or

    blank-shield.svg

We could obviously play with the angles or number of points, but to at least me it seems like it would be the most elegant and easiest thing to do. We could pretty much make it any color or possibly even raise our crest or something

Keep in mind that the "Grey" is raised Black Nickle which is the finish on the actual metal. If we wanted to change it we would either pick a different metal finish, or redesign the area to use an enamel color.

I agree that the colors might get a little messy when the pin is shrunk, even though 1.75" is a pretty good sized pin. Then again, I don't know how detailed the machining will be, it might surprise me.

I wouldn't necessarily add a backing shape like the shield, but what would fill the white areas between the crest and the banners? Do we cherry pick a background color?

I'm not liking the shield back idea, I think it would look too much like a button and not a lapel pin.
