If it rerolled numbers over 0 how did it ever stop?
Seeing the Mudman try to attack Rachel snaps Clayton back to his senses. He swings his rifle around and quickly lines up his shot on the offending creature.
Infidel is a smart dude... standard programming 101 is to prevent creative failsafes in case idiots like me creating an infinite loop. He put a lot work into that code so I bet he planned for exceptions, too.
Still feeling the shakes Clayton somehow manages to overcome his fears and the shoot connects.
The possessed form of Father Cheval howls as the shot peirces his hide, capping him right in the knee. He struggles to find to footing as the wound leaves the body the mantiou has taken crippled. "Oh you'll pay for that you bloated cattle!"
Yeah, sorry, not allowed to do non-work stuff at work, at least not while I'm starting out.
"Cattle?!" Rachel exclaims indignantly. "We are human beings, sons and daughters of the LORD -- and He will not suffer your assaults on His people! Your very limbs will be palsied as you attempt to strike us!"
@Ken O Clayton takes 7 damage from the Bolt attack.... he is unphased.
@Captain Carrott Rachel takes 12 damage... she is Shaken and takes a Wound.
@Nealneal Tennessee takes 10 damage... he is Shaken and takes a Wound.
Before you ask, I included for your Protection spell in the final totals. Even with the +2 Toughness bonus, it's still enough to end up just like this. It does prevent Clayton from being affected by the damage, though.
I spend the Fate Chip to remove the Shaken status from Father Cheval.
The manitou howls angrily and forces the form its possessed back to its feet. Arcane fires errupt from its furious eyes as it releases a torrent of power against you all. Tennessee takes the blast to the face with a scream, stunning him as winces while clutching the searing hot wound. Poor Rachel takes the worst of it, the dark magics burning through her shirt and into her chest. Having regained his composure, Clayton manages to find his footing and though he takes the bolt in the calf he pushes on through the pain and readies another shot against this damned demon.
Gritting his teeth Clayton slams another round into the chamber. He forces himself forward, moving between the two remaining mudmen and Rachel. There was no time to properly line up a shot, Cheval had to be stopped.
geth roll "1d8o8-2; 1d6o6-2" Reloading and Shootin.
Technically, you are correct, @Ken O. You have no Fate chips right now.... However, I fucked up. I should have rewarded you all at least one Fate Chip after the last fight. That was my bad.
Ohh... now you have a bit of choice there, Ken O. If you spend it, you get the reroll AND you get to add a d6 to the roll. But if you hold on to it, it's worth an experience point. Since you know I already established this would be a short campaign, it's probably in your best interest just to spend it on the reroll.
Possessed Father Cheval is now Shaken with two Wounds.
Clayton's shot rang true thoughout the cavernous mines, tearing open the grotesque form's abdomen causing his innards to escape. The demon cried with shock and clutched desperately to hold the body's gizzards inside where they belonged. "Impossible! I will not be defeated by the likes of you ramble."
Up next... @Nealneal@Captain Carrott@JohnnyCache may all act as they please. Rachel and Tennessee both owe me either a Spirit roll to overcome being Shaken or a Fate Chip to instantly overcome it.
I'll take the Ace, 8s, and 7s as my hand. That'll give me two pair and I'm going to let the manitou keep that joker and not suffer the backlash. Taste Souls Preacher Man!
Geth roll "1d8o8; 1d6o6" for Spellcasting two Soul Blasts
Geth roll "2#3d6" for Damage
The soul blasts Tennessee threw towards the manitou tears through him both physically and spiritually. An unhoyl howl of hundred of souls releasing from the tears in his flesh errupt in torrents of blue-white light that floods the cavern. The ground begins to shake beneath your feet and you all stumble blindly. Clayton reaches to protect Rachel from falling debris, covering her with his body. The shaking then stops and the dust begins to settle and the ruined body of Father Cheval litters the floor of the cave.
As you each raise to your feet and dust yourselves off, you hear the sounds of drums again. You move to prepare yourselves for whatever horror comes next, but instead relax as you see Laughing Cow enter the cavern, banging his drum rhythmically. He laughs out loud as he kicks one of the dismembered limbs away from the copper heart of the mountain. "You pale faces sure do like to make messes," he chuckles. "Still you have done well. The manitou, though not destroyed, is banished back to the Deadlands. The spirit of the mountain is free to spread peace and prosperity throughout these lands again."
He kneels next to the massive copper load and removing his loin clothe uses the leathers to polish the stone.
The manitou that poisoned the land has been defeated.
You each gain 2 EXP and another Black (Legendary) Fate Chip is added to the pot.
You can either make a Healing skill check or Rachel can cast a heal spell. Either way, it must be done within the hour or you'll have to switch to slow healing - Vigor roll when you bed down.
Clayton slowly reloads his rifle as he stands protectively over his friends. Sure the danger should be over, but the way things have been going he wasn't going to be taken by surprise if another monster suddenly appeared.
