PAX 2013 community MTG tourney

Hey all, with everything else starting to go I thought I'd post this and at least see if there's any interest.

I'm a big fan of MTG and love pax so I was thinking of trying to do a mini forumer MTG tourney either before PAX.

If everything works out the way I'd want it to it would look like so.

-free
-type 2/standard format(the same stuff you play with at FNM
-16 players, maybe 32 if we can get the interest and space
- best two out of three games to determine the winner
-depending on player count and time we want to spend playing either single elim style or Swiss style
-depending on the elim style either one prize for the winner or prizes for the top 3
-prizes would be forumer items at my expense unless people wanted to donate towards them.

To go along with everything else I'm leaning towards a Thursday early evening tournament. Not sure of the location yet because I'm not sure exactly how much interest this will have, but I do have an idea where'd I'd like to have it and will reach out to them when/if there's enough interest.

So if you play MTG and would be interested in participating in this please post below, also feel free to ask any questions you might have and I'll do my best to answer them. If when we get 16 interested I'll go ahead and "finalize" everything and update this.

you do know that cascade games almost always hosts games that whole weekend. if you want to do a forumer tourney you can just show up and you can do a win a box or something like that but there usually are standard modern, and tons of limited tourney like booster, sealed, and minimaster and the prizes are pretty decent. they even had an ipad during the comiccon1

If that's the company that was running the little magic area I do. But honestly I'm doing this because I want to have a fun hopefully free event for forumers to play some magic that won't require them to give up hours of their PAX time.

If I remember right those guys tournaments are pretty steep in terms of organized play, and like anything that's official it takes them forever to get stuff started.

    Update:

After taking to Lexi I have an idea who I'm going to be reaching out to and hopefully they'll let us play there, but because of the uncertainty about space and because my goal is to provide a "fast" and free pre PAX tournament. I do think I'll be limiting the players to 16 maybe 32 if there's enough interest and space, but probably for the first year just to keep everything simple and provide the best experience possible.

Can you please update the thread title to indicate that this is a community unofficial tourney? Usually Wizards or various reps hold official MTG tourneys throughout the weekend, and I don't want this getting confused with that.

Unless everyone wants to do it during PAX I'd want to make it a Thursday night thing. I'm afraid if would take to long or we'd have to come up some ridiculous rules to prevent it from taking up endless hours of PAX time.

If/when more people become interested we can obviously discuss the fine details. At this point it's just a basic idea with some groundwork and hope that wee can turn it into something

I would be up for this if it doesn't take up too much time. Also i wont be getting in to Seattle until Mid evening Thursday night. I'll be arriving on the PAX train.

    UPDATE:

Unfortunately/thankfully I've been put in the position that I'll be starting training for a new career move this July that will realistically take every waking moment of my life from then until PAX.

This sadly means that I either need to hand off this idea to someone that wants to make this happen or I need to put an expiration date so I can hopefully get it done before life blows up. To that end I'm offering this idea up to anyone that wants to take it over and or giving it until the end of this month to get at least 20 people that would want to do this. Any later than that and preparation would unfortunately interfere with my aforementioned training and preparation and would probably be forgotten for more pressing matters.
