I remember reading a Mega Man 2 paperback, think it was from one of those Scholastic school book fairs. Shit was weird, Dr. Light made him human for some reason, and it was basically Mega Man going "oh shit I feel pain" as he went through the bosses.

I owned the Mega Man and Blaster Master books. They were awesome! (or at least they were when I read them as a kid)

The Metal Gear one was pretty great also!
The Worlds of Power books were good, in their own cheesy way. I'm trying to get the full set, but I forget which ones I have. I still have my Mega Man 2 from when I was a kid, though-- I drew the cover (modified to match the actual game versions of the characters, with Mega Man using his arm cannon) to win some sort of "book quilt" art contest at school.
I get the feeling the thought on Mega Man was "he's a robot, so he can't feel anything and that would be boring, so let's make him a human". I actually thought for a while that the book was canon in that regard, too (hey, the only other thing we had for Mega Man then was Captain N, and guess what-- they did the same thing!). Ironically, Blaster Master's adaptation would be adopted into official canon.
Scholastic did more, too, based on GBA and Game Boy Color titles for Wario Land 4 and the Zelda Oracle games. The latter are terrible, literally play-by-play type stuff. I think there was an old man who even repeated himself when Link tried to talk to him more than once; Wario was only saved by virtue of being told by Wario himself, and even then...
Here's a fun bit about how Worlds of Power came to be. Also, James "Angry Video Game Nerd" Rolfe read the entire book aloud, and you can find those videos here. The best part? It's a very... ah, "sincere" reading. No anger, no joking, just a straight-up reading of the book from start to finish.

Well , they've got the better portion of a day to make more posts there. I'm sure some of it will be better once they have more than 2 posts.
I will say i was a bit amused by Cranky mistaking Twitter for the name of an animal buddy, because it does kinda fit with names like Engaurde and Rattly and Squawks.
RE: Review scores for this game, going off the typical "7/10 is an average game" that seems to have existed for games since the late 90s, 7 or lower seems way off for this title. I haven't played it yet, but it's pretty obvious that the quality of this game is quite high. I can see and agree with arguments about "too samey" to a degree that people are complaining about in Nintendo games recently. For example, New Super Mario Bros. 2, while fun, didn't feel like it differentiated itself enough and the uber coins thing felt more like a gimmick, especially because you'd get hundreds of lives on-top of the game being far too easy. That felt like a below-par effort, by Nintendo standards. However, a game should be judged on the content it presents within it, the Eurogamer review did feel like it was giving the score based on Nintendo's company practices, not the game itself.
Okay. So I thought that the Cranky Twitter thing could have worked, but now the guy seems to be outright insulting Cranky's behavior in DKC1. Screw that, Cranky was the best part of that game.
Okay, so sadly, the Cranky Twitter thing has just turned out painfully unfunny. Whoever it is just doesn't know how to write Cranky.
Leaving aside the "memes" (which somehow manage to be bad at being bad at overdone meme images), any answer to "What's it like to work at Nintendo" that doesn't involve ripping them on their newfangled extra bits and polygons and multiple colors when in his day they worked with three frames of animation and liked it at some point is unacceptable.

I like to think he's scaled up his criticisms, because there's always something worse. So now, the original DKC doesn't look so bad, but have you seen the stuff they're making now? Hoo-wee!

"Look at this! My cane's got more polygons in it than K. Rool did, back in the day! What a waste!"
Oh my god, level 1-B was perfect. Simply perfect. The visuals, the music, the level design, the fact that Diddy, Dixie and Cranky each have points in this level where they're useful but not necessary..perfect.
I have a $5 balance, and a gift Visa card with $25 on it. Logically, this means I only have to pay $20 for the game. But wait: Nintendo only allows you to buy in specific sums, and I cannot use multiple payment options for one purchase. So I can't get the full mileage out of my gift card, and the lack of five dollar increments means I don't get anything out of my pre-existing balance. This terrible arrangement costs me ten extra bucks.

Can you not just buy $25 worth of eShop credit, and then use the "pay remaind with credit card" option?

Cranky is interesting though. I didn't know that you could basically pogo stick-jump continuously.
Dammit! I specifically left the Smash thread so I would have some stuff not spoiled for me.

2. Holy shit, the times some people have are insane. What's really cool though is that you can actually watch replays of other people playing!
